Mine is on the right side...and is surrounded by stitching. It is a bit hard to find. I will post photos later when I get home.
Ok cool, here’s a better pic of the button on mine..

Here is the hat.

Under the brim. The button is in the center of the sewn star.

Did someone say they wanted a self portrait wearing a hat?

Hat 3 - hobby stuff or repairs.

Some random denim cap that I don't even remember getting. Keeps the hair out of the way, and a hat I don't mind getting ruined (it's already water damaged)

Hat... where are we.... 4? Cold and wet

Gelert Mountain Cap (nicknamed Timmy Tabflap)

Thinsulate lined and waterproof. Not many hats are warm, waterproof, peaked, and secure in high winds. This has been a really great hat in dire weather

Hat.. ish... number 5: around the house

Buff... and equivalents in other brands

I have several of these in various different colours. Scarf, headband, hair band, essential pirate gear... and great for keeping hair out of lather when shaving

Finally... because I can't find any of my beanies... if it's too cold to worry about looking even more of a prat than normal, the bobble hat comes out

I only really wear a hat when travelling in hotter climates. For that my standby is my Tilley T5 cotton duck hat, which I've had for about 15 years. These really are almost indestructible - mine looks pretty much like when I bought it, except for patina on the brass grommets. Absorbs all UV, equally good in a downpour, and has a small secret pocket that can handily fit an emergency currency note and a 58mm SAK 8)
