on: December 31, 2016, 06:05:38 AM
With the recent trade school thread by Whoey it got me to looking at some of the job pics I have taken over the years :dd: I have worked on a lot of complicated and very rewarding projects over the years :tu: I thought it might be nice to share some of these with you guys to show you what I do :D

To start out with here is an architect's house our company was doing a favor for :tu: This was back in 2010 I think  :D

I always loved brick work.  I used to dream of a home with all exterior done in stone.

Nothing wrong with that :D There are plenty of colors of brick I have laid over the years that I wouldn't have on an outhouse if I were paying for them

The first pics with the architect house were picked only to match the texture as I think his plan was to paint them to match his older home :tu: I think that the brick in it are a bit much but the more you look at them the more they grow on you  I have a similar brick texture wise on my house with only pinks and tans in it and it grew on me over the years as well :D

This job was started in 2004 and finished at the beginning of 2006 and one of the most intricate jobs I ever worked on :o I really did learn a lot from this job and worked with several very talented bricklayers on this one :tu: St. Cecilia's Mother House (it is a place for nuns to train to be nuns, well sisters as they said they didn't want to be called nuns   :D )

I love to lay rock but we don't usually get that sort of thing as some of the other crews more specialize in it but we luck out every now and then and get to do one or at least help another crew out :D

That's some beautiful work you have going there.  I have been dealing with some problems with my brick work for a while- perhaps I should have asked you for help rather than throw good money after bad to try and sort it out myself!   :ahhh

Yes, we built forms laid the brick then removed the forms before pointing them up :tu:

I have only used the flexible lintels a time or so and curved steel lintels usually only on stone arches (I have built self supporting arches with stone as well though

I love that. One of the museums here had plastic bricks (water filled) and you could build several of those classical arches with them and then remove the support. That is pretty awesome.

If you are referring to the bridge then no they aren't self supporting and it had a welded lintel to a concrete structured bridge ;) Looking back all the arches up til now in the brick are self supporting though  The ones that are roughly 2 ft wide were built up so high and then poured with concrete inside :tu:

I have been very fortunate to have had so many jobs with so many different aspects of the masonry trade over the years :tu:
