Old Half Whittlers are quite nice.   Mine's an 80 year old LF&C, and appears to have nickel silver bolsters and shield, and some unusual handle material that has cracked from repeated use.    Wharncliffe is another awesome short blade in my opinion--kept razor sharp, it's a highly effective slicer.   Don't know if they offered it in wood handles--wood was typically reserved for cheaper knives back in the day, typically Barlows were what had them.

I am a truly horrible person- I know that, and I think I have made it fairly obvious over the years, so feel free to ignore this post.... but...

If ever there was a type of knife I couldn't care less about, it would be the traditional style folders.  There.  I said it.  They bore the living crap out of me, and I can't understand how one would spend that much money on a four bladed knife with nothing but blades.  Maybe it's because I actually use screwdrivers, bottle openers and saws, but I just don't see the need for four blades on one knife. The traditional American lockback (like the classic Buck 119) is nice enough, but I don't really see the appeal of that either, when there are so many better options out there.

Give me a CRKT, Spyderco, Cold Steel, Benchmade, Kershaw, Benchmade, SOG, Gerber, Grohmann, Victorinox, Leatherman etc knife any day of the week.

That having been said, good luck with your search and make sure to let us know what you find and what you think of it when it comes in!  :D

OMG... I don't want to be quoted on this, so I won't say those horrible words. But I find Grants train of thoughts entirely understandable and sympathize with the feelings he has.

You want a small folder,

I like it.  It is a solid work knife, and the price on it was great.  The leather sheath is also nice.

I just can't help but feel tht if I am going to carry  dedicated knife in a belt sheath, why don't I just carry a multitool or SAK in a belt sheath and be able to do a lot more?

The Kershaws are pretty cool and you should enjoy the little ones you ordered.

If you look you can find the next larger size up with wooden inserts, its a neat little good looking knife.

I have been lately using, a lot, a 5cm palles knife, Spanish look/style, made in China and sold by Spanish eBay sellers. It comes with plastic or wooden handles/body and it looks more interesting/unusual that most of the US style traditional knives that dominate the forums.

It is, to me, an unusual/cooler version/brother of the mini toothpick and has replaced my mini toothpicks.

That you do in a big way  :tu:

I googled "Kershaw mini folding hunter" to get an idea, and none of the image results looked like traditional knives at all.
Not sure what you're getting, but purely a matter of opinion the lockback Kershaws pictured earlier also don't seem that traditional to me.

To be clear, I don't even consider a Buck 110 "traditional", same as the very similar Puma folder I got in the 90's.

Perfectly willing to admit that my bias is due to a locking knife being the 2nd and very major step in my childhood knife ownership

I'll hold back on my sarcasm and wait to see what you get  :salute:

Hell and why not get a real Spanish Pallares knife?  It's like buying an Opinel clone, for God's sake.

The real ones are nice, cheap (less than $10) and truly handmade Spanish slipjoints   ???

that's a true nonsensical offense right there...

Why buy a Cold steel Espada when you can buy a real spanish one then?

Many companies make knives like opinel - is that illegal?

The palles does not claim to be spanish made and it is sold by a spanish dealer (money to the spanish economy)- why isn't he arrested by the police?

I like it and it costs, for me, half of what the pallares would cost, from ebay. I can not recommend a knife I have not tested, and the palles serves me well

Is the spanish made one 2 times better than the Chinese one?

Do we look down on victorinox because they are not hand made?

I ordered the Kershaw 3100 & 3115, IMO they are mini clones of Buck's folding hunter.
The word traditional has different meaning to different people, to me the 110 is cutoff for being traditional, before knives were designed with pocket clip or OHO.
