I do like a bit of Prog. Early Rush and Jethro Tull (especially Tull) would be worthy additions to your list. I'm going to have to check out a couple of yours, I'm not aware of them all.

What would you recommend as a starting point G?

Broadsword and the Beast is the one that got me into them when I was a kid.
I don't know most of these bands. I am familiar with Jethro Tull and early Marillion though, I like them. At the beginning of this century, or perhaps a few years earlier, a band in my home town tried to revive the rock opera idea. They are called Cirrha Niva and I think they have a number 1 guitar player. His name is Robbie Willemse (names like this seem quite common among famous people) and I've known him since his birth. Aged four he already was a guitar prodigy.Official website http://www.cirrhaniva.nl/nl/news
I have no idea what Prog is, but I have every Jethro Tull CD I could get my hands on, about 25.If I had to choose just one band to listen to the rest of my life, it would be Jethro Tull.Found myself in deep contemplation of the song One White Duck on a Wall recently......very profound
Riverside are exceptional.Sadly they lost their main songwriter/guitarist last year. The good news is they are carrying on without him as a three piece.
I never heard of "prog", but I do enjoy Opeth and Porcupine Tree! Oh wait... prog is probably short for Progressive Rock?
They are top, although a tad on the gloomy side.
