Looking to buy a Vic Mechanic with Corkscrew
on: November 27, 2012, 03:41:24 PM
Hi Everyone,
Victorinox at one time made the Mechanic model with Corkscrew in place of the Phillips in the back layer tools. I've learned here that it was model 1.3623 (mentioned in Sakwiki also.)
I would like one (or two) for my collection. :gimme:
Please contact me if you can help. I have PayPal  :D
Thanks in advance
Shalom

Are you looking for an original as an addition to a collection or anything as a user? If the latter, a mod of a regular Mechanic would be the easiest. If the former, that's a little tougher as its an unusually hard knife to find. The "Oath of Rutli" (Rutlischwur) from the Battle Series is actually the most commonly available version of this knife. And the most expensive at about $100.

Excellent point.
If I found a factory original  I would keep it as a collection piece
with other special ,rare SAKs.
But this model also appeals to me as an EDC SAK .
(I find 3 layers the most comfortable ,prefer the pliers to a Leatherman
or Gerber keychain plier tool and the can opener can also be used for Phillips screws.
I  don't drink wine much but like the fact that everyone who knows me expects
me to open wine bottles.)
For a USER Mechanic I am thinking of switching the Phillips with a Corkscrew .
Would that necessitate removing ONLY the pin without bushing or all four pins ?

Here's a tutorial how to do it. You only need to remove that one pin.

Swapping the corkscrew/phillips on a SAK - A how to.

This topic is most definitely cold but hopefully not dead. :)

I happen to have a used Mechanic Corkscrew and am considering selling it.
In case there is any interest I'd be more than happy to post pictures.
