Help date my Wenger
on: January 09, 2017, 09:44:10 AM
So I carried this Wenger extensively during the minimalist challenge and I really like it except for the heavy handed grinding treatment the blade has suffered. Now I would like to learn more about it's age.
I don't know exactly what markers to look for but here are a couple, I can provide more if wanted/needed.

It's faint but the Waffenkontrolle stamp is there.

It's clearly a Wenger and made in Delemont. No markings on the reverse side.

Liners are steel but the spacer is brass (to save the edge I guess, there are clear markings of the blade hitting the brass).

What material are the handles made of? Wood? Fiber?

Fiber. It's fairly degraded but far from the point where I wouldn't dare carry it.

Thank you, I wish Victorinox would make a "user" rerun of them!

Maybe the information on this site can help you?

http://www.couteaux-du-soldat-suisse.ch/J01/index.php/en/les-couteaux-du-soldat/les-modeles-1908

It does help a bit, I would say that I have a Variant 2 Wenger Delemont with Type C Waffenkontrolle stamp ('15-'50). The lack of vintage stamp could place it before '21 but if I understand the text corectly that is not necessarily true.

Ok, so the pictures are down and I get the: Warning: this topic has not been posted in for at least 150 days.
Unless you're sure you want to reply, please consider starting a new topic.

Seems like it's time to bump this thread!

Waffenkontrolle stamp.

Wenger, Delemont, no markings on the reverse side.

Liners, they seem to be the same steel as the rest of the tool.

Is it even possible to get a closer date than between 1921 and 1950 as gathered from the couteaux-du-soldat-suisse site (assuming I'm understanding things correctly and this is a Model 1908, variation 2)?
