Removing a layer?
on: January 12, 2017, 05:10:56 AM
I've got an extra Huntsman laying around that I really want to slim down by removing the can opener/bottle lifter layer, and (if possible?) swap the hook out for the reamer.  How would I go about doing this, and where would I source the pin stocks?

Removing a layer?

Replacing the hook with awl is certainly possible. I've seen a few mods here. Haven't done it myself but from what I read, simply bend the scissors backspring just a bit to give tension. And you will probably need some washers to compensate for awl thickness difference.

If your careful enough, old pins can be re-used as your just reducing a layer.

Good luck...

Finally got around to this with ease; unfortunately I lost the lanyard hoop, but small sacrifices must be made for the sake of learning.

I re-used the pins, and did not need to make any adjustments to the tools or back-springs, nor did I have to pad out for extra spacing.  Everything was straight forward.  The hardest part of the project was getting started.
