It does depend on your own personal parameters, but I voted yes because I consider that I do own too many

I voted no for knives and yes for multitools. Knives you can enjoy a great variety of shapes sizes and types. Multitools are meant to to be used and get the job at hand done, I don't feel you need quite as many multitools.

Just an observation but if you were a hemophiliac owning just one knife might be too many. On the other hand if you worked in a meat processing plant you probably would never have too many. There are just too many mitigating factors to make a reasonable decision. Meanwhile I think I'll take a ride to the antique shop to see what he got in over the weekend... :D

No way - as a collector.

I voted yes.

I voted yes, I've been picking up a number of SAKs and other multitools while being here yet I end up carrying a Spartan that I had before coming here. After carrying a Tourist for around ten years or so I know where all (few) of the tools are by heart and my muscle memory knows the knife very well. I still want to improve on it but the truth is that the only knife that has gotten any significant carry is my 1908 Soldier (and some backup 58's and an Executive).

I've been able to keep myself from buying any significant number of folders but I did recently get an EKA Nordic H8 since I realised that I had only one fixed blade knife and that was a small whittling knife.

No. Whatever you have, there will always be a kind you don't. You know, that for the oboe, or the mushrooms, or the clamshells, or for cutting a hair longitudinally and so on.

At an esimated 300+ , or so knives,  I can  answer ..... YES, but that's just my view after collecting / hoarding
for about 50 years

I am sure that others may have a thousand or more, but I am now peronally saturated

I think I would appreciate my collection more if it was pared down to around 100 , or less

Time to go thru them and one by one, handling them to see which ones still make you happy.  Be sure to post pics too  :D

Easy to say.....not so easy to do. For the past YEAR I have been going through my accumulation and photographing it in it's entirety in order to prepare it for sale. I try to work at least an hour a day(don't always succeed). One box of knives that I have are all small to miniature knives and there are close to 700 in there. I can't believe the amount of money I have spent just in batteries for my camera! For extended life batteries locally a package of 4 is about $12.00. I've lost count of how many I have used.
My large cabinet probably has close to a thousand(maybe more) in it and I am only down to drawer 6 out of 24. I still have 7 wooden machinists' tool boxes;4 large rifle cases, and several suitcases filled with kitchen knives and two large blueprint cabinets to go. If I am lucky it will probably only take a couple more years to finish.

Wow. I'd be amazed to see a collection that size. You mind if I ask what your favorite knife in your collection is?

Yes, of course it is.  But the line between just right and too many will be in a different place for everyone.  Some may be happy with just one, or none.  Others may never reach it.

Voted Yes. Each to their own, but too many things weighs heavily on me. At 10 SAK's I am now operating a 'one in, one out' policy.

Break it up.   Photograph 10, 25, 50 or whatever you can and put up for sale.  Don't feel you have to do it all before you offer them up for sale.   Offering up 1000 items will be hard anyway to keep track of once the sale has completed.

I hear ya tho.

Yes, I have definite regrets, I have too many knives.  It gets me that I don't have a use for them and they not collection worthy production knives.  All except one that is.

If my circumstances were different, the focus of my collection simply would've shifted as my knowledge and tastes grow and change.

I'm on a sticky wicket with that! She has a couple of pairs of shoes (hiking and smart), a reasonable amount of bags (couple of rucksacks and a hand bag) and enough clothes to get through the week.  Between the 3 of us we have about 15 SAK's which is the largest amount of anything we have in the house apart from books and DVD's.

SO, how many bottoms was it?  :D
