Strong Side VS Weak Side which wrist and why
on: January 15, 2017, 11:40:16 PM
I think the question speaks for itself. So here's my answer;
I wore my watch on my weak side when I was a teen. Then I melted one to my wrist in the forge, and switch to pocket watches for about a dozen or so years. About 5 years ago I started wearing a wrist watch again because I needed the timer functions for work, weak side of course.
I was setting up a fit bit for my wife; we're both right handed but wear watches opposite wrists. I wear on my weak side and she wears on her strong side. So out of curiosity I decided to post it as a poll to see where others here stand.

I will leave it open for 1 week (7days)

Edit for clarification
Strong side = dominant hand
Weak side = non-dominant hand

Left handed but wear my watch on my left hand.  Anyone wearing a watch on their right wrist is just wrong. ;)

This is a educated guess on my part as I feel like the majority of the population is right handed, and the majority of watch wearers wear them on the left hand. (I assume this is what you're calling "weak")

I always thought and still do, (same reason I carry my phone in my front left pocket) is that since I'm right handed my left hand is free more often than not in comparison. Not only making it less likely to have to set down something in my hand whether it's a drink or whatever, many examples relate. Also and maybe more importantly is protecting it from damage. Using it on your primary hand will inherintley introduce more risk, hence your situation specifically...

Good poll. I'm expecting it to be one sided. But you never know.  ;)

Also for those who wear their watch on their writing prominent hand doesn't that also get in the way and smooth slide on the writing surface?!

The more I think about this the more I still feel I'm right

Weak side (left).

Reason:  'cos that's where I was told to put it when I got my first watch, so I got used to it there and I've never had a reason to change sides.  I do take it off if I'm doing anything where it might get caught on something ( I broke a couple of cases until I learned that lesson).

Yeah
I phrased the question "strong-side" "weak-side" specifically to avoid a left-handed right-handed issue given the vast majority of the population is right handed according to most
I suppose I could have also said "dominant vs. Non-dominant"

Hmmm  If i'm wearing a wrist watch, it will be on my non-dominant (left) wrist, but I do use a pocket watch quite often too (including right now). Which way should I vote?

I've always worn my watches on my left (weak) wrist. Now it's partially from habit but also my un-diagnosed ocd won't allow my to wear a ring on one hand and a watch on the other. Balance is key. Now it's just most comfortable on my left arm.  :tu:

Non-dominant/weak side for me (which is my left hand), since my right hand is better at pressing buttons. I wear it on my left so I can operate it with my right, which is how I would do it in the futuristic future where I wear a computer on my arm. Also for right handed guitar playing this puts it out of the way where the band won't bash against the guitar's body.

Cycling one-handed I'm probably a little more steady with my right hand on the handlebars as well, so again that puts the watch on the left side for me.

I wear mine on my left wrist (weak side) as I was told to put it in there as a kid. Which also makes sense... pushing buttons on watch or adjusting is better with the right hand...

I started wearing watches on my left hand because that's where I was told I should wear them.

Soon, I noticed the crown was often hitting on the back of my hand, which was annoying, and getting dirty in the process, so I thought all that was rather silly.

Now I wear my watch on my right hand, even if it doesn't have a crown. I'm quite used to wearing it there and I don't want to change.

I usually remove my watch if I have to do manual work, so weak or dominant side doesn't matter much.

I've always worn my watch on my right side. I'm left handed so I guess that would be my weak side..

Non dominant or left wrist for me, reasons in addition to the above are it's easier to put on and take off (I'm right handed) also being on the non dominant wrist the likelihood of it getting damaged is reduced.

Non dominant left wrist for me. Sometimes I wear it on the right when bathing, in order to equalize the untanned mark on both wrists.

non dominant left wrist for me, same reasons as people have said above, I'm right handed so easier to operate, easier to put on and take off,  and less likely to get damaged.

Wrist watches when first introduced had buckle type bands, and your strong hand could buckle it easier on the opposite wrist.
Right handed would wear on left.  A left handed on the right.

This also, made winding easier while on the wrist for righties, lefties needed to wind before putting it on.

I am LH, but wore on left because that is where dad wore his.

With flex bands and newer clasps it makes coupling the band a nonissue.

I just remembered why I wear my watch on the left wrist, other my dad did.

During the summer months my skin does not TAN on the left arm just above wrist. My watch covers that area perfectly so as no to attract attention when out and about dressed up!
