I'm getting weak....I really like the Farmer and its cousins, but I have a question for all you Farmer 'sperts:

From looking at the SOSAK selector, and the SmartKnives site, I think I'd find the Electrician Plus more useful, since it replaces the can opener (which I'd rarely-if-ever) use with the short utility Electrician knife blade.

Other than that, this is the same grade as the Farmer, right??

Now...if I could find a Red or Blue Electrician Plus, I'd be punching that Buy Now button in a heartbeat! (and replacement Alox scales don't seem to be available easily... )

Please chime in with anything this Vic-noob is missing/overlooking...

Yes, the Electrician Plus is exactly the same as the Farmer other than having the sheepsfoot blade in place of the can opener and small screwdriver.

It will be VERY difficult to locate a red Electrician Plus (next to impossible), so you might as well pull the trigger on a silver one.  You might be able to have Scibeer put some black HAIII scales on it later.

Yes, the Electrician Plus is the same except with a utility blade.

The only problem with loosing the can opener is you lose your phillips capability. If pairing with a mutli, or you have a tool kit with screwdrivers, then not a problem.

You also lose the key ring, if that bothers you.

Question for the modders: Can an electrician blade and awl be paired in the same layer?

Thanks to Swiss Man I am the proud owner of a Farmer (as one one hour ago).  It is much much thinner than I thought.  I see a possible mod in the future and a pocket clip.

Well I almost joined the Farmers Club but I joined the Electrician Plus Club instead :pok:

Very nice knifes it's the first alox knife I have ever had as well

I just figured that the extra blade would suit me better than the combo driver\opener ;)

I think I might pair it with my Pulse best of both world saw with 1 scissors with the other    ::) :D

Count me in now, too!
My NIB red Farmer was waiting for me when I got back in town last night (Thanks Tim!)

Earlier in this thread I was leaning towards the Electrician Plus. But I've been EDC'ing my Deluxe Tinker and have been using the canopener/screwdriver tool for phillips screws at work, so I figured that having a redundant 2nd blade at the cost of the phillips driver wasn't worth it...I really wanted one of the scibeer mods w/scissors, but couldn't justify the extra $$ ($75-85 vs $20).

Besides....gotta keep something out there to buy later, right?

And for only having it a couple days, I've used it to:
  • Bottle opener - Open a beer
  • Knive - Cut a box down (MAN that's a sharp blade...like cutting butter...)
  • Bottle opener - Open a beer
  • Saw - saw off the sharp part of a broken rake handle
  • Bottle opener - Open a beer
  • Knife - Whittle down the broken rake handle
  • Bottle opener - Open a beer
  • Flatblade screwdriver - Screw on the rake head (used an honest to God flathead screw, no less!)
  • Bottle opener - Open a beer
  • Awl - cut four holes in my 13yo's leather belt so he could tighten it enough to keep his pants up over his butt...
  • Bottle opener - Open a beer
  • Keyring - even made a quickie "cobra" lanyard for it outta an old shoestring
  • Bottle opener - Open a beer
...guess I just need to open a can of soup and my new EDC will be properly broken in.
