"...it's considered a tactical machete...." Holy crap! 14-year-old psychopaths rejoice!
Another hit from team Applegate-FairbairnThe Smatchet is one of those unique SAS/OSS comando knives from WW2. These were originally a Fairbairn design. Based on WW1 trench knives & bolos the orginal designs are hilted in hardwood with slab crossguards standard to large military knives of the time. The blade is shaped to chop while having enough tip to stab through anything, even a steel pot suposidly. The pomels were weighted to crush. The hole at the base of the blade is so a solder can tell which edge is which in the dark. The idea was you could keep a work edge on one side for choping, and a razor on the other for slicing what/who you needed to.This is a version of an "Improved" that Applegate licenced in the 80s.I first saw one in the 90s by AlMar. As much as I love my big old combat knives this is one thats always been too pricy to justify no matter who makes it. This thing is basically a short sword that is too short to call a sword, and too big to call a dagger. It fits in that same odd space with large Bowies, Khybers, Kukri, Barong, and similar.
