The One Handed Trekker (non-serrated) is currently my favorite 111 mm SAKs.  Mine rides in my medical kit in a cargo pocket ready to be a backup in case that's the only tool I still have.  Someday I'd like to acquire the regular Trekker and a Locksmith.

Question: the liner lock on the more modern 111 mm SAKs seems pretty solid to me.  How does the older style lock with the release on the side compare in terms of strength?

As long as you don't extremely abuse it (i.e something really dumb, like hammering on a blade), it should be no problem. I personally find the slide-lock a bit easier to release. And they have better liners. What I do like about the newer ones is better, sturdier tools and bigger pins. My favorite tool has to be the pry bar/cap lifter. I've pried nailed boards apart with it, and it didn't fail.

The pry bar/cap lifter is very good but that saw blade is just excellent. Longer reach and it is a hungry monster! It is my favorite tool on the 111mm.

My two current users, the Fireman and Outrider. Personally, in carry, and use, I don't like the OHO models. One, it's uncomfortable when using any tool but the blade. Two, it requires a bigger belt sheath that is bulkier and wider on the belt.  And, uh, three. You can't use the SD tip of the can opener in tight spaces on OHO models. OHO hole gets in the way.

Fireman is from ca. 2007. Still has the older, low-profile linerlock. I fell in love with it in 2016, when I came across it in the cabinet of the local knife store. With its age, it was destined to be a shelf queen, but I quite liked the seperate plain and serrated blades. I trashed my Soldier (really did some stupid stuff in sharpening when the serrations dulled; but I suppose Vic would replace the blade). It soon replaced the Soldier, and is still carried around the farm to this date. It also marked the time I started EDC'ing 111mms. Sucks Vic discontinued the Fireman. The Rescue Tool belt cutter would have been a major upgrade from the modified 108mm gutting blade it used.  I don't need a window breaker, or a saw for laminated glass. Not on the rescue squad or fire dept.  The Fireman gets real work done.

I had been looking into the Outrider since I got on here in 2015. Then came the linerlock model. It was always expensive, until Thunderpants did the group buy on these Bosch-branded models a few months back. Even with shipping from Germany, I saved about $30 from buying a standard Outrider. My main EDC 111mm, and it seems to find its niche with EDC and DIY type work. Scissors are good for pattern cutting and the like, while the Fireman's belt cutter is for heavy use.  And not to mention, with the eyeglass scredriver installed, it has four drivers.

Just found and started reading this thread guys - Really good - Thanks for all pics and comments :tu:
I am a big fan of the 111mm - I'd like to join the club when I get a couple of pics!!

Got this far in the thread and was disappointed not to find the vid. Did you delete it in your vid clean up El C
My German is pretty rubbish - So I was expecting to be impressed   !!  ;)

It was indeed a Rucksack!  Brand spankin' new, complete with sleeve and papers.    Do all of the civilian 111mm have "patent" on back of the main blade??

Since Rucksack is a German word and I need to practice my German... I made a German language video about it.  If you don't speak German you might be mildly confused and or impressed, if you do speak German you will be very disappointed.  :D

That's a lot of 111mm SAKs JM - What badge or you expecting?   ???    :pok:    ;)

You definitely favour the military, liner-lock and OHO models - eh?
EDIT: Oops - Just checked - Pretty much equal OHO vs NN !! No duals ??

Hey are there two variations in scale colour for the Garants? - Blue and slate grey? - Looks like it - Need to update the Wiki if so !!
Never knew that before - but certainly explains discrepancy in some piccies

Already got the badge Huntsman... Yes those are two different Garants... The grey on is the older model based on the Nomad... i assume it came before the centurion based model...

Will post pics on the 2... need to look for it or take new pics since my phone crashed a few months back

Already got the badge Huntsman...

Not talking about that one!! .... A mere 12  :pok: Looks like you are after the super, super 111mm collector!!
And yes - I know it does not exist - I was just joking / trying to compliment you - with the badge comment - hence the emoticons !

Re Garant: So it is available with corkscrew or Phillips options - Is that right? And that aligns with the scale colour ?  ???
Never knew that either
Please explain - Thanks !!

Ah ah ah...

Think I got the models mixed up... The latest Garant is the blue scaled one (nomad version)... Before this model, was the Grey scaled centurion model...

Both not offered at the same time period...

Edited:

Here’s the pic I shared on the latest sak thread late last december...
