Spirit Scissors
on: October 02, 2008, 10:31:26 AM
I am planning to get a Spirit within this month but I have read that its scissors will open only halfway. If this is the case it will be difficult to cut at fast.

May I request from any member who have a Spirit to take a picture of the Spirit's scissors in fully open position?

Hah, and I chose to bring my Spirit today instead of my Charge. I wish I had a camera on me, though. At widest, the scissors only open less than a centimeter. They're pretty stubby too. But they are solidly built, so I'm not really complaining on that front.

Here's one compared to the Leatherman scissors on the Blast. They may not open very much but they are powerful.

I didn't like the Spirits scissors to start with but they have grown on me and have always found them fine .

They may be short, but they'll cut pretty much anything you put in front of them :)
Give in, buy several Farmer's!!!!!!

Thanks to all of you guys!

Since everybody seems contented with the Spirit's scissors i guess I will proceed with my plan.

I'm guessing either a selection of jeweler's files or sandpaper. Sounds like it'd be a pain in the butt.

You can pry up on the spring to pop it out of its groove at the scissors end.  This allows free play of the scissor blades.  You can sharpen them normall this way.

Honestly, I've never had much luck at sharpening scissors....

For those of you who own a Spririt, were you not tempted to remove the tab of the the notch that limits the opening of the scissors?

No, I don't find that it limits cutting that much.  Typically if you're cutting something that requires them to be opened farther than that, you shouldn't be using scissors in the first place.

They are very strong scissors.  I would almost consider them mini shears.

If there is something you can't cut with the Spirit scissors, then you should be using dedicated scissors  :D.

What I dislike about the spirit scissor is because of the outward curve of the blade, it tend to push slippery materials like paracord out instead of cut them.

While my Cybertool's scissors open slightly wider, if it's any indication of how good Vic's scissors are, the Spirit's should be fine. I've taken care of fingernails, cordage, and some small paper with my Cybertool's scissors. They are among the best I've used on any m/t yet.

The Spirit's scissors are quite a different beast though.  I've never had a need to sharpen the SAK scissors, or the ones on the Swisstool.  But, I tend to use the Spirit's scissors on tougher jobs that I wouldn't use the "normal" scissors on.  Therefore, I've been a bit rough on mine.
