Tritium embedded in scales?
on: January 28, 2017, 10:38:43 PM

So I was thinking: given the fact that Tritium is added to all sorts of surfaces these days, like compasses, watches, keychains, ... to aid in finding them in darkness, without the need of natural light to recharge them.
Has anyone thought of adding it to SAK scales?
It should be possible by milling out a pair of scales to house some rods.

Seems to me like it could give some great effects given the different available colours.

Also, by using alot of tiny rods, one might even be able to make a shield with cross out of it.
No?

Tritium is considered to be pretty safe, IIRC you won't be exposed to any radiation at all unless you break open the glass tube and inhale the gas  :pok:

That said, the tubes are often a bit fragile if knocked - that is why the markers you can buy are usually encased in plastic.  Also note that small tritium tubes are not very bright - many people are disappointed when they don't glow like freshly charged glow-in-the-dark Strontium Aluminate type products.  Tritium is available in various colours, green is usually the brightest.
