Alternatively, would it not be an idea to use a drill stand with an electric drill (kept stationary in rotation) and a vice? At least the stamp would be guided vertically, with little sideways play. Start with the object in the vice, heat the stamp and move it down? You may need to fashion something to hold the stamp in the drill chuck...

Thanks DT but I want to get the stamp on to things like axe handles,
so I need to either rock the stamp across the wood which is what I am finding hard to do with out blurring the image
or I need to roll the wood across the stamp which I haven't tried yet

So far I'm experimenting and making it up as I go along  :)

Ah yes, that might complicate things a tad... and the axe handles are not necessarily separate from the heads, right? If they were one could clamp the hot stamp (requires thermal insulation) in a vice or other clamp preferably with a largish flat surface and roll the handle over it...

You could maybe try having the stamp in the drill press vertically, and bring it down on a handle thats on the roller scate roller thing I've seen in one of your piccies, that would roll it evenly without it drifting. I think

That look great, I'm jealous! Regarding branding rounded objects I would recommend picking up a length of wooden dowel and just go crazy until you can do it consistently.

Thinking about it more, my suggestion won't work because you need the wood to travel across the face of the brand and it won't with the roller in a fixed position.
