Plus, if a police officer saw you whip one of those out in the mall to open a Cinnabon he'd be justified in opening fire and asking questions later.

Not where I live! :ahh Thankfully, GA is pretty knife-friendly. Especially the parts that I am in. Most police officers/sheriffs deputies that I have spoken to around here would walk up and say "Cool! Where did you get that?!"

If I was a cop and I saw you pull out a Szabo knife in public, I'd shoot you.

And I know you.... :P

If you don't want a huge hole take a look at Pingo and Roadie
Solving problems you didn't know you had in the most obscure way possible

"And now, it's time to hand this over to our tame race axe driver. Some say, he can live in the forest for six months at a time without food, and he knows of a secret tribe of only women where he is their God. All we know is, he's call the Styx!" - TazzieRob

The Delica really is fantastic knife.  But it is made in Japan.

I didnt understand the Spyderco hype either. Thought they where ugly and didnt get the hole.
Then I got some Byrds, then an Ambitious, then a Dragonfly and a Salt, then a Delica and a Native and...so it goes.
Now i prefer a hole over a stud.

The PM2 has been suggested before but I have never tried one. But that is a universally praised and loved knife, as far as I know.
I also saw Grant praise the Police in another thread.

Well would ya look at that. Ask and you shall receive!  :tu: :tu:

I like the blade shape much better. But the handle shape lacks any design or uniqueness. Kam?

Disclaimer: Kam, I am fully aware this does not meet your criteria (It's made in Japan).

Now that that is out of the way, I'm curious as to what you think of the Large Lum folder (other than its place of manufacture)? It has a Chinese heritage (which you seem very proud of), and is a very large, but still graceful knife IMO. It was the first Spyderco i though of for you, but again, the Japanese origin obviously makes this one out of the question.

I think it very functional and it should be a good cutter. It reminds me of the Navaja Busa a lot.
Other than being Bob Lum's design, I honestly dont see any Chinese heritage on it.

If you do not like holes in the blade for the most part why get a Spydie Kam?
That is why I don't own any Spyderco. The hole works well but thumb slot or thumb stub can function just fine and without ruining the appearance of the knife.

With my folders, i rarely open them with thumb, I normally just flick them open with wrist action.

I admit the hole works better than stud, but I never have any problems with stud.

Cant believe no one has done this one yet. It just screams KAMPFER!!!!!!!

Spyderco Szabo
S30v
Pretty big (4.6") blade
Taiwan (not japan) but it sure does look like a kampfer knife

https://www.amazon.com/SPYDERCO-Szabo-Folder-Laminate-Carbon/dp/B00DG8O4A0

Note: i believe that there is a version with a satin blade. Not positive though.
Spyderco makes some weird smurf don't they.

Laci Szabo is one of my least favorite designers.  I don't mean to say any5hing bad about the man, but his designs seem too "over the top ninja-ish" to me.  I've heard he has the fighting cred to back it up, but I don't so I guess it's my shortcomings that keep me from appreciating them.

They strike me as the realizations of the knives I used to draw on my school books when I was a kid, inspired by various Dungeons & Dragons stories and very little actual use.

They'd look great if they were carried by the Uruk Hai around New Zealand, but not so much in everyday life.  Plus, if a police officer saw you whip one of those out in the mall to open a Cinnabon he'd be justified in opening fire and asking questions later.

What's the problem with Japan? Seki City is a legend.

I'm not a Spyderco fan, I mostly like the Delica, Ladybug and Military/Police models, and some serrated SALTs.

But I can't lie, I've never seen a better keychain knife than an adorable Ladybug. There, the large hole is what makes it really work at this size.

Just look at them! They aren't mine, I wish they were. Don't you?

Here's mine. Jealous?

15 years ago, for historical reasons, I decided to boycott all Japanese products for the rest of my life as a personal choice.
The exact reasons are inappropriate to discuses on this forum.

I guess that makes a chick then, since I bought them both.

I think in the end of Spyderco doesn't appeal to you then I'm not sure anything we say here is going to convince you.

On the other hand, you are obviously curious enough about them to try and get us to convince you.  Maybe you should just give in to your urges and get one?
