Why no Phillps on 108mm?
on: February 14, 2017, 02:28:49 AM
I'm curious--how come Vic never put a backside Phillips on the 108mm series?     Especially considering the GAK, the knife which begat the 108mm line was a military issue knife, and had a corkscrew.

I've wondered that myself.  In general there are only a very few variations on that size.

The Bundeswehr set the requirements for the knife...the commercial models were a spinoff of that. My guess is they used up contract overrun parts for them. The limited run of 108 Solos a few years back was probably assembled from parts found in the warehouse...thet were finished off to make room. I believe that the original tooling was sold off to one of the other contractors of the Gak. Commercial sales probably did not warrant setting up tooling for another part...although they did make the clip point and gutting blades.
