Camping with a Leatherman
on: July 06, 2017, 12:17:30 AM
Long 4th of July weekend.  Did anyone else use their Leatherman to assist in food preparation or cooking this last weekend?

I occasionally think it is odd that I EDC a Signal since it was designed for outdoor wilderness use and I live in Los Angeles.  This weekend I went camping with my family so I was happy to have my Signal with me day and night.
I cut paracord for a clothesline and to hang a hammock.  I sawed some stuff.  I used my pliers to lift hot things off the fire when a pot holder was not close by.  (sorry no pictures)

And I used the blade to show my nephew how to whittle a stick so that you can cook a hot dog or roast marshmallows.

By the end of the trip I even used the hammer tool for "tent stake pulling"  as the website refers to it.  I always thought of that as a stupid tool/feature that they just mention to add to the tool count for marketing.  (sort of like Victorinox always mentioning the key ring  ::)) But I was surprised that it made the task much easier.

Agree. Great post and walkthrough of your tool usage on your camping trip!

I went camping recently too and had (as always) my Leatherman with me which assisted as well in a multitude of things.  :tu:

I carry a Skeletool CX, but for camping I need a saw, and all the LM saws are to small. A big blade is nice for food preparation too.  My skeletool is paired with this Wenger when I'm camping.

Nice
 :D
I find the leatherman saws to work really well.  But I have been trying to start saving up to buy a Victorinox Rangergrip (which I believe is the same as your Wenger)  I can imagine how nice and convenient it would be to have the longer saw and blade.

Yes, Victorinox makes some of the old Wenger models.

Comparing the saw on the Rangers with the saw on the Charge:

Borrowed my dad's camper van and in his small tool box I find this lovely anniversary charge.  I been finding little jobs all day just to use it!

Yes. only changes are the logo & the Vic can opener.
Unfortunately many of the Rangers were discontinued.
