The new guy with a dumb question
on: March 03, 2017, 05:23:41 AM
Im sure this upsets the leatherman gods but has anyone tried to use a leatherman blade on a sog tool? or a sog plier head on a leatherman?

Dumb questions are kind of our thing here... :D

Off the top of my head I don't recall any of those particular mods, but then the Mod Squad has been around for ten years and I could easily have missed or forgotten something.  Usually it's SOG blades that are added to other tools like Troels did with this Gerber.  This is usually because SOG sells blades and other components individually, meaning that you don't have to buy a whole other tool just to get parts.

I'd be interested in seeing the results from any experimentation you may feel like doing or hearing what ideas you may have if you have something specific in mind.

Oh, and welcome to the forum!

thanks for the input, I was also thinking of getting the sog plier head to take the 154cm cutters. I'd have the clean cutting of the cutters and the torque of the sog head. decisions decisions. I have a Surge, Charge AL, Suspension, and Powerplay. just looking to make my own

Like Def said, most put SOG tools on other tools, but a few have put LM tools on a SOG. Something to keep in mind, it is cheaper to buy a whole new plier head from SOG than it is to buy the Cm154 cutters that go to the LMs.

I know there's a degree of compatability with the PPP and Paratool, and the LM PST chassis, but there's issues with later, lockable LMs
There is no beginning,or ending, and for this we are thankful, cos now is hard enough to understand!

Poncho, im touched you always remember me whenever someone asks about SOG/Leatherman hybrids.

Tysn, you may have a bit of trouble fitting Wave/Charge outside blades onto a SOG, as they have larger pivot holes, and lockfaces designed for linerlocks, rather than lockbacks. If you do go thatto route, you may consider getting a small 7/32" brass rod, and making a bushing to fit in the blade pivot, so it will fit the SOG pivots better.
