The Picnicker, that isn't a picnic at all! Details on shipping dilemma inside..

Some of you may know that I was expecting a mint in box Victorinox Picnicker, instead, I received two items of baby clothes, new with tags.

The box:



What was inside:


What I was expecting to find (photo from eBay ad):


Seller stated he sent the SAK.  Since I am covered under eBay protection, I opened a case.  I said in the statement to the seller that I believe he did send the SAK and that along the way, there was a mix-up with the box that apparently became open during transit.
The seller has just notified me that the photo of the box I sent to eBay is not even the box he used to send the SAK.  So somewhere along the way, the label was removed from his box and applied to another box that had baby clothes in it.

This is where the issue stands at this time.  I asked the seller to show his post office the photos of the box and to inquire how one box arrives at their location, and an entirely different box arrives at mine without the item.

I'm starting this thread so that others can hopefully learn from this scenario.  Right now, I'm just dumbfounded.  :think:  Not sure what to make of all of it.
I am deeply saddened to not have the item I purchased.  This will be the second knife I have lost (If I can say lost as I never received it), but it hurts as much as losing my first Camper, that was in the same style box as this Picnicker and I love that older box from the 1980s.

In the big picture, it's only a knife, and I move on.

But does anyone have any ideas on what could have happened?  The one thing to keep in mind is that I am telling the truth of what I received.  You all know I would have LOVED to have shown my mint in box, Camper family knife, those are my favorite SAKs of all time.
I would have longed to see some  :drool: and some  :like: and maybe even a  :gimme:  all the while I would have been  :climber: ....but sadly that hasn't happened.........yet.

What an ordeal! At least the shipper is in on it. I have no idea what could have happened. Kind of a weird scenario. I really hope this ends well for you.

This just keeps getting worse.  With the information that you have provided so far, it really looks like a postal employee pulled the switch.  Many years ago, I met an old school mate who had moved to my town and was working as a postal inspector with a heavy fraud case load (he eventually became an FBI agent and I lost touch with him).  He used to entertain me when we met at Church with generalized stories of his perpetrators.  I was happy at the time to know that there was an enforcement arm of the post office.  This was in the early 80's when federal laws were still enforced in California.  However, it may be an option for the seller to see if he can initiate a fraud complaint (tampering with U.S. mail is still a federal offense).  If this isn't an isolated incident, they may even launch an investigation.

You may also have some options as a possible victim of postal fraud.  You might be able to register a complaint (it is within the realm of possibility that the theft occurred after the item was delivered).  I don't know what resources may be brought to bear, but I would suggest not handling the box or clothing any more than you may have done (finger prints may be matched to a postal employee at the sending location).

I may be living in the past (not unusual for me :)  ) in hoping for recourse in a post office investigation but it seems most likely that is where the "Exchange" took place.

I do have a friend who had a problem with a theft of a costly item that he mailed (it was a post office employee).  When I questioned him about the details, he did use an E-Bay label that he printed (like in the case of your seller).  Personally, I make it a practice not to use the E-Bay label since I don't want anyone knowing that the package I am sending is part of an E-Bay transaction.

That package went through BAKERSFIELD FACILITY i bet !!

and pulled the ol switch--roo on 1 knife - i recieved coins instead  :o :o :o
I took it to my local Post Master head chief n bottle washer......... He got crazy pissed when i mentioned the words "THEFT BY EMPLOYEES"  :facepalm:
It got HEATED...............
In the end the USPS did squat! every single time!
The explanation I got on the SWITCH-A-R-OO = Sometimes not just one, but multiple packages get "EATEN" by one of the sorting machines.......
The employees do their BEST  ::) to tape up/repair package or clear bag the item and insert a OOPS note.
He basically said, more than likely the SLOOTH Detective employee had a machine bind up, when he unjammed it, their were several Eaten packages, the employee tried his best and taped up what he thought was coorect....and sent them on as this Super Hero has done his job as effectively as he seen fit.
Sorry for any inconvienance........ "Have nice day!"  (in your best ebay phone call center employee voice)  :facepalm:

P.S my regular sort facility is SANTA CLARITA - NEVER AN ISSUE - not sure why items go to BK facility every once in a great while!??

Cali, not sure which part of Calif. it went through.  I should probably just try to reconcile with the fact that I'm not going to get it. 
Of course, I have a little glimmer of hope, but I probably shouldn't fool myself, it just prolongs the hurt.

He basically said, more than likely the SLOOTH Detective employee had a machine bind up, when he unjammed it, their were several Eaten packages, the employee tried his best and taped up what he thought was coorect....and sent them on as this Super Hero has done his job as effectively as he seen fit.

P.S my regular sort facility is SANTA CLARITA - NEVER AN ISSUE - not sure why items go to BK facility every once in a great while!??

I have had the infamous plastic bag with an OOPS letter and what I think was my ripped packaging on an item I was suppose to get.  It looked like someone slit the package about 1 1/2 inches just enough to get the sak out.  I was sooooooo pissed that they delivered an empty envelope that I called and said how can you do that, deliver an empty envelope.  Then I told them what was in it and she said they would look for it and I said yeah right in how's pocket and she said the employee's are required to turn the items in that they find and I said okay I will hear back from you within a couple of days as that should be long enough to check lost/found.  Never heard back.

I do not go back that far, but I would rather play an original Nintendo game than anything on a PS4 or XBOX one.  I did get my hands on a NES Classic on the release date. 

I am hoping that something will be done in your case here.  and it is sad that the seller may also get the rough end of this considering I doubt he/she did this.  hopefully the seller bought the proper insurance.  I always do when I sell on ebay.

detron, I did a lot of gaming on the old Apple IIGS platform...lots of fun, still have it.
And I agree, it's a shame for the seller too.

sir_mike, the missing oops note is very suspiciously missing....so somehow someone did a switcheroo without wanting to bring attention to it, that's what I think.

Yeah I have no doubt that you got a switcheroo.  I just mentioned the OOPS comment as I seen someone else posted on it and it still makes me mad!  :)

I always pay for both tracking and insurance on anything of significant value or rarity, that seems to greatly increase the chances of my packages getting to where I paid for them to go (either to me or someone else). 

My theory is that it is a bit awkward for a dishonest employee (and for their manager as well) to explain exactly how the package "went missing" when an insurance claim is made, so they tend to take the uninsured and untracked ones instead (less chance of getting caught).

Not long after I moved to where I live now I had so much post go 'missing' that the bank refused to send me anything in the post. I complained to the post office and I would have got a greater response if I had talked to the door. Two months later the local paper ran a story on two posties that had been stealing post. \there's good bad and indifferent everywhere. I now have the best postie ever  :salute:

Thanks all for the replies.

Definitely going to pay extra to sellers in the future for proper insurance and speedy delivery.
I have one other package missing (it's coming from Canada), so I haven't mentioned it, those can sometimes take a long while to show up.
But now I'm wondering if something happened to it too!  :facepalm:

So sorry that your order got so messed up.  It saddens me to think that you did not get the particular knife that you ordered. I know how disappointing it can be to be excited about getting a particular knife and then losing out on it.  Crappy. Sorry to hear about this. I agree that as a seller I never use printed labels ever. Nothing on the package indicates it's an ebay item. Also insurance and tracking are always included with my auctions.

Maybe check some baby forums and see if there's some mom who's angry about the dumb knife she received instead of the amazing baby clothes she ordered.

I feel you, boy.
I have no reply yet from a member here, and no package from the trade ever arrived, he's out of the forums since Feb 08. Last message he answered from me was Jan 19th. In between those two days he never replied to any of my other PMs.
Knowing how nice folks are here I have a hard time believing he deceived me and left as soon as he got my tool, but the fact that he apparently shipped it twice and promised to give tracking on both occasions (which he never did) leaves a bitter aftertaste in my mouth, cause that way I'd have been able to follow the parcel and see at which point it was lost.  :oops:

Now I just hope he is fine and will visit us again sometime.  :-\
