Your "Go To" SAK
on: March 05, 2017, 06:10:37 PM
A lot of members here have (from what I've seen) massive collections of Swiss army knives, that it makes me wonder if, given the option, do they carry a different knife every day, or do they have one specific knife that they reach for if they're just heading outside.

For me, my go to's are (for every day use): my trusty tinker

And if i'm going into the woods, I usually reach for my OC Farmer (with brass liners)

The Explorer is my go to sak and my normal carry.  My second would have to be the Swisschamp!  Both on suspension clips in right front pocket.

Smashie and I are in the same boat, Swisschamp in a pouch all the time.

This boat is getting crowded. Swiss Champ in a belt sheath and only occasionally my Climber in a pocket when it is unseemly to wear a belt sheath.

Room for one more?

I do like to throw in a multi from time to time.
During free time that is!

During work it's a Rebar with Spartan or Waiter, simply because these are second hand and therefore more "beaters"

(Image removed from quote.)

 :like:  Nice pic, classic!

I own 60+ SAKs and my go-to has to be the Compact (I even have a brand new one in box on standby just in case  )  Manager on the key chain....  Close 2nd is my Climber +.

That said, I do love my old Champion and Explorer... BUT I don't like wearing a belt sheath or cargo pants so unfortunately they don't see a lot of pocket time.

I am enthusiastic SAK collector and user.
My collection and "SAKs for use" are for me completely different levels, which I have strictly separated.
My EDC philosophy says that things that have been regularly carried for a long time becomes a special, individual value.
So I have only three SAKs I use regularly:

58mm Manager: Always on my keys
93mm Solo: in free time
93mm Farmer at work

If you want to be happy, be.

Definitely my Rambler for every day use. I can attest to using one function on that knife everyday.
Secondly I would say my Pioneer X. The main blade gets used for food prep quite frequently.

Mine is a EDC Vagabond (not alox) with Philips tip bottle opener.

My Climber is fitted in a 4" LM nylon sheath and rides in the bugout bag which was also my beach bag during recent trip to Mexico.

For work pocket time is split between Pioneer or Farmer.  Which I go back to on Monday.

My first SAK was a Huntsman with the narrow file on the back (circa 1960s). This was stolen and replaced by another Huntsman (circa 1970s). By this time, the file no longer was an included implement. This one was stolen in 2015. I was bummed out. We were together more than 40 years. Had to be replaced and I purchased yet another Huntsman. However, I still missed the file. Thus I purchased a Ranger. I don't need the hook, or the chisel, or the small screwdriver on the back; however, I now have my file back. This is now the only SAK that I carry.

What kinda pouch you carry it in?

Since I also carry a Swisschamp on my belt I'll chime in. I use a Victorinox velcro pouch that came with mine. I've carried it for a good while and it has held up well.

Thanks for the info.

Have a Vic pouch and don't care for it much.

Think it is time for another Shield.

My go to SAK

I'm back to my Explorer Plus as my off day carry.  I also run my Champion pretty hard tho mostly for work.  My Swisschamp has a lot of miles on it as well from both work and off day carry.  I am also a huge fan of my Manager and Excutive.

I have a Deluxe Tinker sitting on my coffee table as I type.

My main "go to" sak will always be the Tinker (91/84mm) no matter how much i like to carry all others.

I have to say though i've been very surprised this couple of days to how well the Explorer carries in my pocket. It really dosen't feel all that bulky, and not heavy at all. I'm liking it a lot  :D
