SOG phillips driver
on: December 13, 2016, 10:21:09 PM
Just give a quick shout for SOG phillips driver.
It blows.  :td: Not only it slips a lot, it is too big for small screws and too small for the bigger ones.
When use in conjunction with non-locking MT just makes the saturation much worst.

I agree, other than I do not consider the implement any less appalling in a locking frame

The cantankerous but occasionally useful member, formally known as 50ft-trad

Is that a plug and play swap or would it need some modification?

it was plug and play (that last one especially, as the driver locks into place but the lock has to be engaged with your finger, otherwise it wiggles and has play)

and the crappy chisel grind blade...at least I never feel bad taking a bench grinder to it.
The Americanized tanto awl is a bit odd too but at least that has functionality.
Don't the phillips cast shank snap a lot too under little pressure?

While the awl is pointy and sharp, I always feel it was made for leftyies

Exactly the grinding is on the wrong side of the awl
I messed it up my self while making an awl out of a screw driver on a Gerber mp600 > its quite anoying with a lefty awl for right handed person

I have a Sog PPP on the way so be intersting with some first hand impressions  :)

The blade too seems to be for left handed people, in no other way can I explain the choice of side the grind is on. As it is the bevel is hidden from sight, and since it's a chisel grind I can't use the side towards me to see how it's angled to the workpiece. This means less precise cuts.

The chisel grind could even bring some extra use as a great marking knife if it was inverted which make this an extra missed opportunity.
