Recommendations for Loctite Threadlocker
on: March 30, 2017, 05:41:23 PM
Hi Everyone...

For those that do mods on their MTs and SAKs, do you reapply threadlockers to keep the pivot screws from coming loose?

I recently swapped the plain edge blade on my Wave with an S30V blade from a Charge. I didn't use any threadlockers as it is tight already at the moment. But am affraid it might come loose at some point.

Been looking online at those made by Loctite as they're currently not in stock in local hardware stores. But am so confused with the soo many choices, 242,243, blue and many more. Which one is the right one to buy. I need something that is strong enough but doesn't need to pre-heat the screws when it's time to unthread.

Thanks in advance for the help...

A small dab of nail polish works as a thread locker.

222 or 243.  I don't think it makes a huge difference on small threads.

IIRC, Blue means it's meant to losen up again when needed, while red is tougher...

Red needs heat to come loose, and is what LM uses at the factory.
Blue comes loose with enough torque, which is what is most often recommended so as not to damage anything.
Green seems similar to blue.  I've never used it, nor do I see it out much.

In general, I use blue for tools/mods/etc and red for firearms parts.

Go with the blue 243. It works good. I also use red 263 from time to time.

I use blue as well the only time I have used red is when I built AK47 screw builds.
I think Alcohol, Tabacco and Firearms should be a convenience store, not a government agency.
