The PST 1.5.1 adding the saw
on: March 15, 2017, 08:30:18 PM
Well I have carried my PST 1.5 lately and finally made myself go and cut a SOG saw to fit into my PST :D

I have had it marked to cut for months

20170315_115117 by Poncho 65, on Flickr

Compared to a couple other PST/PST II parts to see what needed to be cut away for sure :tu:

I cut the back off and then went to making the pivot end match the factory PST end of this blade :tu:

Next I took a diamond stone and a sanding block to clean it up and make the finish a bit smoother and more eye pleasing :D

Next into the PST and see if it fits  Yep looks pretty good :tu: Now I mark the nail nick position with a Sharpie

Cut the nail nick in :tu:

Now to see if it can cut

Tested and works :dd: Now to see the finished PST 1.5.1 :woohoo:

And a comparison to the Rebar and it's saw

Nice job!   That's something I want to do, but I haven't found a busted PST or PST II to do it to.  My PST II still works fine, and I see no reason to mess with it.   I'm thinking about trading an intact PST for a friend's which has had one of the plier pivots disappear (which was replaced with a nut and bolt).

What started this was that I bid on a PST II and got it for cheap but the handles were messed up ::) and I also had a PST that I didn't care to take apart with a couple issues ;) :D

It is a very great EDC anyways and now it is more so with the saw :dd: Not really much else that I would need on it  Especially since I carry a SAK anyways :tu:

Nice mod, a saw seems to be lacking in the PST range. I like the shape you made it, I think Mr Harley will have something to say about the decapitation.  :D

If you do another, do the bottom bit first, that will show you how much needs to be taken off the top.

Cheers,

Pete

Thanks Peter :salute: Most definitely will do the pivot end first and then check for fit :D

I like the narrower version better myself, less drag when cutting  :tu:
