Adding scissors to my MP600 and maybe a saw later?
on: March 26, 2017, 04:11:14 PM
Well after contemplating joining the Multi-Plier April challenge  I decided to go for it :tu:

Link here https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,71256.0.html

So I went to look at my MP600 and guess what......NO SCISSORS :ahhh Checked my MP400 and it did have them so

Yeah I decided I wanted the MP600 for the challenge and I took them apart and modded the MP600 with scissors :D

All the stock parts and maybe a saw mod in the near future before April  :D

20170325_194209 by Poncho 65, on Flickr

Started by taking the MP600 apart

20170325_194232 by Poncho 65, on Flickr

Next the MP400 >:D

Look Ma no hands :o :D

The aftermath :ahhh

If I don't add the saw I may put the serrated blade back in so I can have more options :tu: :D

I may now have to acquire more Gerbers as they are so easy to mod though

I have always wanted a Flik anyways

Since the challenge start tomorrow and I haven't worked on the saw yet  I thought I had better go ahead and add the awl :tu: All I did was take a file and reshaped the tiny flat driver

Before

After

I will fine tune and sharpen it a bit more but the shape and point are there and it is a little sharp :D

In other words it will be awl right for the challenge

My FG3 has two awls.      Technically one is a scraper.

Don't think I did a thread on that one.      If I can't find any old pics I'll get newer ones for the challenge thread.

I got curious yesterday and search around

Black Oxide Friday and May Gerber FG3.

Your photo looks so much better then what is on there website which is probably why they never interest me. Which one exactly is it, I can't seem to find one that is a FG3.

FG3 stands for FrankenGerber - it's a cool looking mod isn't it? I have first dibs on it though in case anything 'untoward' should happen to Zman.

Yeah it is the 3rd version of the FG.
This one is based on the MP600ST (sight tool).
Added blunt nosed pliers, awl, scissors and diamond file.

You are welcome Zoidberg
Do you know if the carbon scraper/awl on the mp600 ST is unhardened steel or another softer metal like bronze ?
I ask because Leatherman went with (soft) bronze in the MUT so the scraper wouldnt scratch the bolt carrier (amongst other things).... and because I kind of want one :D

I believe it's the same as the other tools. So not soft at all.

Well I got around to cutting a saw for my MP  It isn't perfect but it will do for now until I have some time to make it better :tu:

I went ahead and marked 2 saw blades one for my PST 1.5 and the other for my MP600 :tu:

20170402_194028 by Poncho 65, on Flickr

I will save the PST 1.5 pic for another thread ;) but here is what the MP saw blade turned out like

20170402_194109 by Poncho 65, on Flickr

Well here is a pic of both together and I used the Gerber pin to help line them up with the other tools to check for my cut

My end product MP600 :dd:

Now that I am only going to carry a MP600 for the month you got me thinking of adding some scissors to one of my MP600s. I looked around and found a Gerber Multi-Lite missing the top with the flash lite for 15.00 I am hoping the scissors fit as well as the saw blade exchanger.
I think Alcohol, Tabacco and Firearms should be a convenience store, not a government agency.
