how do i grind.file down leatherman tools?
on: April 02, 2017, 11:23:56 PM
do i need a dremel or can i do it by hand with a normal file?

i want to file a surge blade exchanger down as ive read bosch/dewalt etc saws are thinner than Lm's. so as to fit in my signal.

thanks for any input. :salute:

Either or, filing by hand takes longer.
Here is an old post showing my solution to thin blades.
Haven't put the exchanger into a Signal so can't help there but recall seeing something about it recently, I'll have a look around for it.

I just bought some Bosch compatible jigsaw blades. As already mentioned by others, they are almost half compared to the Leatherman saws. Can anyone explain his solution for minimizing blade play? Pictures are much welcomed!
Thanks.
Heat shrink. Works great for me. Sorry, was gonna take some pics for you today but forgot.
Done in a rush but you should be able to get the idea.

Heat it, remove and cut to fit with the Surge scissors.

Lasts for ages.

Works with most brands.

Fits like a glove.

Grind a little off the end to allow it to close.

I've also used heat shrink tube with my old version Surge and t shank blade with good success.

i think it was a thread started by aloha

its not that standard t shank saws are too thin its that the blade exchanger is too thick for the signal frame, so i figure thinning it out to the thickness of standard t-shanks  would let it fit.
then id would have to file the LM file down to fit also.

Thinning down the exchanger isn't really a simple mod. I think it would be easier to adjust the signal frame to fit.

Thats what I had to do on my Wave.

I cut shims from some thin steel. I made half a dozen of them.

Now, if someone would take this idea, but using industry standard thickness t-shanks.....
