Miniature knives.............
on: March 16, 2017, 11:26:22 PM
When I first began accumulating knives on a serious basis(around 1964 or so)I was fascinated with spring operated knives;more commonly known as switchblades. The bigger the better was my mantra at the time. Since then I have added almost a hundred of them to my accumulation, but now the ones that fascinate me the most are the smaller knives. And that doesn't just pertain to automatics;it is for all knives.
I acquired my first REAL miniature knife(less than 1 inch(25.4mm)long)sometime in the early 1970's.It was unmarked other than the word GERMANY stamped into the tiny tang.Over time I have accumulated a fair amount of them;mostly with pearl handles and a single blade although I do have a couple 2 blade models and one 4 blade of recent manufacture. Some of the designs are really unique;one is actually in the shape of a miniature cutlass when folded. Most of them were made prior to WWII and some before WWI.
I also had a miniature fighting knife made for me by a very talented knifemaker named Jim Turecek in Connecticut many years ago.It was very costly for the time and took about 18 months to get.I remember Jim saying that the miniature knives took more time to make than a standard sized knife. I don't think he makes them anymore either.
Some of the miniatures I have are of Japanese make and not of the greatest quality but still unique in their own right.I even have a pair that are ear rings!.
Anyway I thought the members might enjoy seeing some of the ones in my collection and please feel free to post any that you might own.

Here are a few automatics:
A small Imperial.
A switchblade that is actually a ball point pen.
A small inexpensive one(probably Japanese).
A tiny "wasp waist" knife from Japan.

It would be rather more unusual speaking of other people in the first person, one might say using passive voice.
