I would definitely drop a little bit of mineral oil in that joint and work it back and forth.  Though it being brand new, you shouldn't have that type of issue.  I would give that a go when you get a minute.

As far as the scales, not sure on that.  Might just be that a batch of the celidor scales were fitted improperly or cut slightly differently?

Thank you for that advice. I have a lot of SAKs; I'm a big fan of Victorinox. I have always tried lubing it but never working it back and forth after -- that seemed to do the trick! It's weird, I've purchased a few Vics recently and seemingly the scales are all... a bit off. I don't know if they're just making them differently now or what but they seem a bit weird. I actually got a sapphire Swiss Champ from them with a bent corkscrew right out of the box. I didn't even notice it at first and now I think it may be too late to try to replace it.

Time to Tinker around.  Again.  I took the Tinker on yard maintenance yesterday.  An alder broke down in the yard, so I cut some of the worst parts off.  Might post a photo if I decide it isn't too boring.  Whackulated some invasive privet and some invasive multi-flora rose.  Made zizzing noises with my old Echo.  Picked up some deadfalls.  Normal stuff.
    Best wishes.  G

Here's my Tinker Deluxe which was given a new lease on life thanks to AzteCypher's instructions (below)! I really do love this model. I love Vic scissors and pliers and this is the smallest model that I'm aware of that has both. I want to replace the scales with blue Plus scales because I love the little pen. (But to be completely honest, I really wish this thing had the corkscrew instead of the Phillips because I use the glasses screwdriver a lot more than the backside Phillips (or the corkscrew, for that matter). And the version of this thing with a corkscrew instead of a Phillips is the Deluxe Climber (shown alongside the TD for comparison). But then again, I use the pin more than the glasses screwdriver and the Deluxe Clmber doesn't have the pin hole. Anyone got any tips?

I would definitely drop a little bit of mineral oil in that joint and work it back and forth.  Though it being brand new, you shouldn't have that type of issue.  I would give that a go when you get a minute.

Nice.  I think you could figure out how to make a pinhole in the scale.  Looks like the corkscrew side scale is damaged now.  That would be a good one to experiment with.  There have been some posts here about converting the scale for a pin.  Might want to look them up.  Best wishes.  G

You know what, that's a great point actually. Since the scale is already damaged, and I would prefer plus scales anyways, I should just swap the entire scale for plus scales and get the pin hole as a bonus. Does anyone know when they started making the pin holes in all the scales?

I picked up this unique Tinker recently.  There is no Victorinox emblem on the front scale only the Witraktor wording.  No scale tools, a small clip point blade instead of the small spear point, and a square Phillips with the file.

Yup, I'm only doing the Fire challenge so I've been carrying a SAK for a bit.  I've been itching to find a square Phillips with a file and I finally got one.  Strange that there's no shield on it though.  Custom request for a company I'd wager.

Great choice! I must admit I have a bit of a soft spot for black Tinkers

There is no Victorinox emblem on the front scale...
Another great one! Is the Swiss cross on the back scale?

I may well take a Tinker photo when I get home.

No Swiss cross on the back scale.  Now, someone correct me if I'm wrong but based on the images below, I'm dating this one between 1970 and 1971.

Tinker Day again.  I was out in a thunderstorm yesterday trimming boxwoods with an electric trimmer.  The thoughts of being electrocuted did run through my mind.  Then I figured, I had just as soon be killed trimming boxwoods as any other way.  Best wishes.  G

Slightly customized Tinker.  Started life as a Super Tinker, but ended up stealing the scissor layer for another project.  Tools and springs have been acid etched and brass washed.

Might as well kick off Tinker Time.  Black Tinker with an Opinel.  The autocorrupt seems to think that Opinel should be spelled Optinel or Opine.  Optinel isn't even a word.  It doesn't have a problem with Tinker.  Best wishes.  Gary

A number 8 it is.  The old-fashioned rusty kind of steel.  Opening it has been a little tougher with all the rain here.  When I got it (from friend FolderBeholder, thanks again) it was sharp as could be until you got to the last inch of the blade at the tip.  A few minutes with a medium Arkansas put it in fine form.  I am used to sharpening most everything I get anyway.
I like a pretty big knife, so the Number 8 was perfect.  Big enough blade for most any use and still feather light to carry.  A dealer friend offered to sell me all his remaining Opinel inventory.  There weren't very many.  All were Number 6 and stainless.  It worked out to about $6 or $8 a knife, I don't remember.  Naturally like a fool I didn't buy them.  I did buy all his German make traditionals.  I carried this one regularly in a jacket pocket, while the weather was colder.  Then I put it away and haven't carried it lately.  Best wishes.  G

No more than $8 for a new No. 6? I wouldn't have been able to hand over the money fast enough! Though I've never owned a Carbone Opinel, that will soon change.

And here's a Tinker for this Tuesday...black with a burnt orange fob.

My first SAK was a Tinker in the mid 70’s. It was lost long ago but I still think Tinkers should be 84mm.

If I could figure out how to post a pic, you would see a Salesman/Super tinker from the late 70’s and Tinker small from the mid to late 60’s.
