Anyone mount a clip into cellidor?
on: February 20, 2022, 05:05:38 AM
I like to carry a SAK in a cargo pocket. So, thickness isn't too much of an issue as it might be in an upper front pocket. Has anyone here mounted (not just with epoxy) a clip onto a cellidor scale while allowing the tweezer/tp/pen to be used?

I think mounting a clip directly to the cellidor would not be a very durable arrangement.

I don’t have one myself, but the Swiss Qlip might be worth a look.

A small nut on the inside of the scale might work.

Like a hazelnut? Just kidding. You'd need very short screws to match.  I don't see any issues in theory,  but I was curious it happen successfully.

The length of a screw is easy to shorten :tu:

Where did you get the clip and mounting screws/nuts?  The reason I'm asking is that I'm planning to go from a Spartan to an Explorer as my EDC.

Swiss Bianco did the 111mm with a thru bolted connection including a plate on the interior side to prevent pull-thru failure.

That’s the way I’d go with a cellidor clip mod.

….

Are you giving up on the Passenger mod?

Try amazon for the clip - see below for the description. They don't come with screws so you may need to source them from your local hardware store. Not hard to find. I had to do some minor filing to the cellidor to accomodate the nut at the back.

I can't do the work. Since the price of a Passenger is so much more than an Explorer (gray frame, with hook), I'm willing to accept the additional scissors. I assume I couldn't trade a like new Scientist for a Passenger... I have one but I'm not a fan of the combo.

Understood about doing the work yourself.

But I think you underestimate the value of a like-new Scientist in trade. Especially for modded Passengers. I’d build you a second one…if you can wait for it.

On a separate note, what color scale would you want the clip mounted to? Front or back?

Either red or blue plus scales.  While I never thought about it before, I'd go with big blade tip down on the side opposite the clip.

On second thought, I'm not sure if the Passenger is thick&heavy enough to necessitate a clip. I imagine the Explorer's extra level with scissors and hook put it into the heavy-class.

I’ve had it in my mind that a money clip’s clip could be installed on cellidor with a backing plate and using rivets. I’m thinking of making the prototype that could mount over the front or back on the narrow end like you suggest. If fabricated as a ‘nut plate’ tapped in stainless, either screws or rivets could be used to secure the clip.

Only issue I see with the ‘front’ side and narrow end as you suggest is that this would normally cover the Vic shield. And my ‘design’ wouldn’t really work on the backside plus scales.

I’d probably make the prototype plate out of nickel silver or brass with rivets and see if it works. I guess over the shield on a red front scale just to see. I have lots of decent new-take-offs I bought a while back from a seller who swapped scales on new knives.

Have you thought of either engraving or welding a small shield on to the clip?

Most I would probably do to a clip (stainless money clip type) would be just the cross/+ and a ‘hole’ not engraved. More than that would be difficult with the shield. And I’d be concerned about a ‘+’ hole catching things with the corners.  I’d more likely just set another shield elsewhere in the cellidor.

Have you ever relocated a shield? How'd it done? Is it inset?

Is it just an adhesive and a clear coat?

Set flush like OEM. Or as close to that as possible for me.
