How to RIT Dye G10 Handle Scales Tutorial ....................
There are a couple ways online, but NOT MUCH out there on this topic.
This is how I did it, after my research.
I wanted to dye my Digi Cam scales
RED to match some SAK EDC carry combo's
I used a SPYDERCO Paramilitary 2 (PM2) with STOCK Digital Camo G10 Scales
I went to Wally World and grabbed a bottle of "LIQUID" RIT dye - color - "
Cherry Red"
*** NOTE **** RIT comes in two forms, Liquid & Powder - both work the same
what I used:
1 bottle RIT Dye - olor of choice
1 cup white vinager
4 cups tap water
1 pair latex gloves
1 plastic fork - to stir dye in pot/pan
1 small kitchen pot - to boil/simmer in
1 burner on the stove- gas or electric
2 feet of thin metal wire - to pull scales out of pot & to help stir & rotate the scales
1 timer
1 use of the kitchen sink with running water - to rinse scales when done
steps:
1 - degrease scales with dish soap & dry
2 - bring Dye,Water,& Vinager to a boil...... then reduce to low and simmer
3 - dunk scales in simmering dye with wire you tied to them
4 - stir occasionally with plasic fork & by wire connected to scales
5 - simmer in pot for 15- 30 minutes ( start checking them after 10-15 mins...... for darker/richer color leave in for upto 30 mins
6 - pull them out by wire and rinse in a sink with running water & scrub with toothbrush......
7 - let dry and enjoy
