Toothpick!

Yes, the toothpick. I've browsed through the search results and could not find a dedicated toothpick thread.
Yet, much has been said about this useless piece of plastic. Well, useless...

Just a moment ago I made the mistake of actually using my toothpick as an toothpick  :-[
Then it occured to me what I have used the toothpick for.
It has prodded, poked, scraped and dug itself through all sorts of nasty corners. It's the #1 cleaning tool for my SAKs.
Putting this thing in my mouth is generally not a very good idea.

So do any of you have any love for the toothpick? Any interesting stories or information on this thing? I know the shape has changed over time, is there a way to date these things?
Do you perhaps have any life saving anecdotes? (like not putting it in you mouth )

I use it quite a lot but am aware that it's not sanitary. I'll admit to using it to clean fluff from the springs. I always clean it before replacing it though

Can't imagine being without the toothpick, the tweezers or the straight pin. And, yes, I too clean it  :2tu:

Ah, yeah. 'Cleaning'. So do I.
Usually it's whiping it on my pants or blowing the dust off of it.

Are there any good mods out there?

I'm thinknig of cutting/engraving 1mm lines in the back and make a mini ruler/depth gauge out of it.
Of course, that would make it harder to clean.

I use it for darn near everything.    Typically for general purpose poking, prodding, and scraping.  I've used it as a toothpick a few times, only when actual toothpicks weren't available.   The only way I could see it improved was that it would be made of metal--preferably steel.

This guy replicated the toothpick out of a ferrorod, which is an awesome mod to do.

This actually pretty useful. I think it's pretty labour intensive to make, but it's a nice mod nonetheless.

Toothpick fan here too.  :like:

I keep a SAK toothpick in my wallet when I'm not carrying a SAK equipped with one.  :salute:

I rarely use it for anything other than my teeth.  :D

I use the tweezers much more than the toothpick, but I usually just use it as a toothpick.

I wonder if such a thin piece of ferrorod is still usable? I don't like ferrorods in a world where lighters exist, but this could be a nice addition to my sak. I already placed a small sewing needle with a piece of thread wound around it under the hook, and replaced the pin with a sewing needle (the needle steel is better). I might consider doing this next...

Also, I think it would probably work best if the ferro-pick would be coated with nail polish to prevent it oxidising...

You folks carry something around in your pocket for years and then stick it in your mouth !!!  :-) Just not a sanitary thing to do IMHO. Never used the toothpick for anything. Replaced it in my Tinker with a cut down coping saw blade.

I use the toothpick all the time but only as a toothpick, not for cleaning or anything else.

I do with they made the toothpick with a bit more of a point and slimmer towards the end by a smaller angle so it is a little thinner and still to a point!  A small metal one would be interesting to see and tryout though!  :)

I don't think a metal toothpick is very good for the teeth. I'm sticking with plastic for that.

Do you have a photo of the coping saw pick you made?
