Amorphous April Multi-Plier Challenge - JOIN NOW !
on: March 24, 2017, 07:56:14 PM
The challenge goes like this...
Carry and post a photo of a Gerber Multi-Plier for 30 consecutive days in April (1/4 to 30/4). The challenge includes any Gerber Multi-Plier series tool (MP400-800) hacked or unhacked.

Join this amorphous challenge and you will risk winning a Mora Bushcraft Black fresh from Scandinavia (unused). Grant will hopefully help me draw a winner :D

With some luck, all completing participants will be granted a brand new 30-day Multi-Plier merit badge :ahhh

Awesome  :salute:
I forgot to mention that the challenge makes most sense if the chosen MT is carried throughout (and not swapping between multiple Multi-Pliers).

I thought more people would be joining this.

Does the Center-Drive count as a multi-plier?

Me to :)

My Gerber knowlegde is limited ... but the Center-Drive is quite similar to the core line of one-handed pliers ... at least more than the Legend (MP-800).

In the end, it is too much of a flagship model, so I'd say it should have its own badge.
Still, there are tons of MP variations, where is everybody?
If the challenge requires a minimum amount of people, I'll join to boost the numbers.  :tu:

These things take time to coagulate.

Rules query please:  can other tooly items be carried (knife, eggbeater, etc.), so long as the MP is the primary user wherever possible?

Being a LM fanboy I might be tempted to enter this just to get away from the norm

I will get a pic up and join properly in a while ;) :like:

Yeah I decided I wanted the MP600 for the challenge and I took them apart and modded the MP600 with scissors :D

All the stock parts and maybe a saw mod in the near future before April  :D

About the rules: I guess so ... but I dont know what the typical standard is  ?

Its cool if you are taking two months straight doing these challenges  :tu:

Poncho, you have great setup now on that MP-600 even better if you hack in the saw!
Great post changing the tools  :like:
I need some more mp-600's for swapping around tools :D

Yes, this should be very possible :salute: If I can't get Whoey on this (as he has been super swamped lately with a few different things) I will try my hand at making it  I helped with the trad folder badge so it won't be my first attempt anyways :D

About the rules: I guess so ... but I dont know what the typical standard is  ?

It has been done both ways in the past.  The recent trend over the past several months is to allow the carry of other toys, as long as the Challenge item is carried.  Early on, it was the Challenge item only.

I does almost become like a full time job.  I've done :

- March (LM OHT)
- January (LM Signal)
- December (Victorinox Spirit)
- Sept (LM Rebar)
- July (LM Supertool).

And before that the Blast/Wave/Charge, SOG, Squirt and Surge Challenges.  After the MP Challenge, I may be ready for a little break.

I go through phases of carrying an MT, and phases of not.  I carry a Gerber about 20% of the time, mostly an MP600 or Diesel.  They are the same size and weight.  The Gerbers are, in my view, an acquired taste because they don't have the high level of design and manufacturing sophistication of a Victorinox or even Leatherman.  I've previously compared the Gerber lineup to an AK-47.  Each gives the impression that it was designed and constructed by deranged monkeys, but they are also absolutely reliable and bulletproof.  The Gerbers certainly work, but it takes just a little more effort than with a Victorinox to deploy the tools.  Deploy the plier, open the body, pull out the driver or blade, close the body, and (usually) retract the plier.  Then reverse after you are done.  Gerbers would probably be last on my list if I had to choose just one MT, but they do grow on you.  I own in the range of 7-10 of them, and am considering buying a bladeless 600 - just because.

I just gut a MUT and recently a Skeletool ... so I am sligtly concerned about not using them for month. Its kind of my own fault  :D
But i really like the MP600: good handle comfort, thick frame and thick tools, fun factor pliers, cheaper price so I use it more freely and easy to hack. The AK47 parallel to the MP600 is good - a cheap and reliable tool.
