I love my two big beasts. I'd never carry them though. Personally, for me, they're collector items to be amazed by as a testament to what Victorinox can create.

This is the XXL I used to own. It's a weird one: it has the blade from the 1997 commemorative series SAKs :think:

In light of the Max Challenge, I thought this thread deserved a bump.  There's some great pics on here for comparison purposes, as well as just good old fashioned knife lust  :D

Here's my XAVT which is a collector's for me and an exhibition item. Even though I manipulate it very often, still with the same eyes like a boy discovering a new toy he really was looking forward to.  :climber: :whistle: :drool:
it's really one to have I think, and it shows what Vic can make and the prowess behind this.  :hatsoff:

Proud to join the club. By the way, Max Stone and I seem to be the only members with a clear housing LED. I have the impression clear housing LEDs are quite rare in AVT-SAKs (the Traveller Lite and Expedition Lite I got last year both had grey housings even though I bought them new from shops). Is this your experience as well?

I had a look at an XXL at my Vic agent a few weeks ago, and the housing was clear. (Just a look… :facepalm:)

I suspect that being a little less popular than the mainstream 91’s, the LED versions tend to sit a little longer in stock. This may explain finding retail stock with grey housings?  :dunno:

You might be right. Still, I find it remarkable that even Amazon shipped me a grey housing Traveller Lite last year. Also, XAVTs on eBay seem rather seldom to come with clear housings. With such an amount of old stock still available, one wonders how much new (=clear housing) stock Vic actually produced before they decided to discontinue the AVTs altogether. Anyway, I have a feeling that our clear housing Wenger wrench XAVTs will be more sought after in the future than the pre-2017 models.

To me it feels as if the XXL lacks soul. Flagships have to be extravagant, overambitious and also a bit crazy in my book, like the ridiculously oversized Giant, the dysfunctional butane gaz lighter-XXLT or the "technology powerhouse"-XAVT. The XXL is just a bigger version of the XLT and as such feels too normal and boring (as well as tremendously overpriced). Actually, it's one direct step back from the XAVT - where is the innovation and audacity in that?

I got an XAVT from a UK supplier in April/May and it was all clear housing. Might just be luck of the draw.
