I'm quite curious about this

Yep I do. The only music I can't stand is rap. I'm not too keen on most R&B as well. Other than that I like pretty much any.

Same here. R&B sounds like babies crying. I like Dolly Parton, Flatt & Scruggs and many more. But also The Dubliners, rock music, opera and Happy House

I like Country, and Bluegrass, and Country Rock and ZZ Top. I like banjo and western style violin. Maybe because I saw a lot of Dukes of Hazzard episodes when I was a kid. I was there for Daisy Duke, but the music got stuck in my head.

If I were to bet, I would have gone with a lot of Americans storming this thread before any other European even took a peek. Nice to see I would have been wrong

Kinda depends on what you call country music!

My family's patron saint is Marty Robbins. Still very much like Marty. Fan of Hank Williams Snr too, amongst many others.

When I was a kid, country was very big in Northern Ireland. In recent years I'm glad to say,it's making a big come back :tu:

I'm not very familiar with the entirety of country music but I like Johnny Cash, if that counts.

Ever heard something like this?

Bit of Country. Bit of Rock. Bit of Folk. American Song Book.

The big one though is Classical. Operetta, piano concertos, symphonies.

Lots of good stuff out there; no reason to restrict listening to a single genre.

Well, to be fair, there is some good rap. Just not the: ''I be driving around in smurfing car with smurfets in the back talking smurf about other smurfs, smurfing uzis in my smurfing hands, and I'll smurf your smurf in smurfing no time'' kind...  :D

As for country, does this count?:   (you would like if you watched Archer... :D)

@OP: What I really dislike is somemost of narodno zabavna and turbofolk music produced in our parts of the world...  :D

That's it exactly, and a lot of R&B seems to be heading that way to.

I like some, but not those nowadays though. Can't stand those lazy-sounding dudes. I guess the last country-ish singer I like is Shania Twain.

Casual fan here. I like Cash and David Allan Coe, Never worry about restrictive genres - if you like it, you like it. Response to music should be emotional, not prescriptive and intellectual!

I love country music more than any other type, although I like almost all music. I grew up with it and it feels like part of my heritage. That being said. Almost all of this "new, current country" is disgraceful and i like it less and less. I always change the song when it comes on unless the girlfriend is listening to it. I get pretty picky post-2000s era.

George Jones had a few songs that were super powerful,  and there are a few other country songs that I like, but the Genre as a whole is low down on my scale.

I like classic rock, and Motown, I love a great portion of classical type music, and some of the newer stuff is not bad.

however, I listen to audiobooks constantly, so music is usually only when others are in the car
If I can help, let me know

I liked the old country music from the 50s and 60s but today's country isn't my cup of tea.

Best country songs of all time:

You tore out my heart and stomped that sucker flat
You're the reason our kids are ugly
The only ring you ever gave me was the ring around the tub

And if you play a country song backwards the guy's dog comes back to life and he gets his pick-up truck and his wife back.

That would be like Jim Reeves and Skeeter Davis? My parents had some of their records and played them quite often.

Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, George Jones, Kitty Wells, Marty Robbins, Jim Reeves, Tammy Wynette, Loretta Lynn & others.

I also like the old cowboy music (different genre than country.)

I only listen to Country Music when I am alone or with somebody. New or old don't matter to me I like it all. What's funny is the grandkids listen to modern I Guess they call it Pop Music as well as Country Music.

How would you explain cowboy songs? Using Marty Robbins as an example,we would have said Devil Woman would be country, while El Paso would have been western...

Anybody you'd recommend for cowboy songs?

I can't explain cowboy songs but here is a link that does:

http://sites.dwrl.utexas.edu/countrymusic/the-history/singing-cowboys/

The best way to understand the difference between cowboy and country is to hear some cowboy songs.  Here are some Youtube links to some of the cowboy classics:

Some of the most recognized names in cowboy music are Gene Autry, Roy Rogers and the Sons of the Pioneers, Tex Ritter, Marty Robbins and Patsy Montana but there are many others.

Those of us who grew up in the USA in the 50s will remember these so-called "singing cowboys."  The TV shows of our youth were largely westerns with these actors/singers.  Every Saturday morning we'd watch one cowboy show after another on black-and-white TV.  Good times.
