just fixed a oven with mine (small but beefy-enough pliers helped getting to the bolts we couldnt reach with regular-size pliers from the toolbox hehe)

also started nicknaming mine the chick repellent

Why the chick repellent?

I earned the Geek of the Week award at work for wearing mine as a belt buckle

I got both Syncs, I have them set up as belt buckles and I have to say for me they are the ultimate edc, you use it and put it back on your belt, it's always there. When people notice they usually says it's the coolest thing- then they ask about the TSA...

Probably because I live SF, CA haha. Where having a multitool buckle is seen socially as an horrible fashion misstep (not that I care ). It's neither hipersterish enough or trendy enough   :ahhh

My Sync II is getting regular use at the mo and is now getting a few marks on it from sliding on and off the base. Having it as my belt buckle makes it so handy to grab and use.

I had the same thought. Also wondered about applying a coating or anodizing, or dyeing it or something.

Or maybe some kind of cover to go over it

Had a funny issue today, belt buckle - aka the sog sync I - was against the table and i was leaning a bit, which pushed the button and it fell. I guess that's one issue with the design, though it happened once in a couple of weeks or so that ive been wearing it now.
im basically just keeping it on now, looks alright as a buckle and its kinda useful actually. I like not having to pick up a multitool, its just there.

Sync 2

The honeymoon is just beginning folks...

I've acquired "the knack" for quickly deploying and unlocking the tools. It seems the longer I've owned this gadget, the more I love it. What is it that makes this SOG so special?

FYI I don't use the buckle/clip attachment. The Sync 2 is so light, compact and conveniently shaped that I often just pop it into my shirt pocket. I barely notice it's there until a task arises.

BEST wire cutters - - - I use the blunt nose pliers hard and have cut dozens of cords and tie straps effortlessly with the bypass cutters.

Fair to good scissors I have used for basic stuff. Nail trimming; no problem.

Nail file sux but the screwdriver on it is great. The medium slotted and flat Phillips are also very good.

Knife is razor sharp and more than adequate . I'm just a tad concerned it may be too thin.

Couple tiny spots of surface rust around the pliers but who cares?.. don't use it as an eating utensil.

Have I said what an awesome tool this is?

I'm still carrying mine daily as my belt buckle. I often forget it's there and use the multi in my pocket though

It's been a good tool so far. I haven't used it for anything heavy, though I don't think it's designed for that, it's designed for light duty use, which is what I use it for. Plus having it as a belt buckle makes it so convenient.

I still get the  or  ::) off people when I deploy it, they all think I'm a multitool geek.

Today's carry

Oh yes  :tu:

If you go for one, I'd go for the sync II. My sync I only sees light of day because it's clipped the the bag I carry the collapsible water bowl, water, poo bags, etc when I walk my dog. I don't think I've actually used it yet either

I just used my sync II and when I did I noticed it has quite a lot of rust forming on it from wearing it as a belt buckle. I'll take some pics and post them before I get rid of the rust. It's going to be a fiddly job getting rid of it all. I think the dremel will have to come out to play with scotchbrite pads on it.

 That didn't take long. I'm sure Tony will have some tricks up his sleeve if there's rust in difficult to reach areas

Had my Sync I fall off while wearing it as a buckle. Apparently, after reading Amazon and SOG's own user review this is something that happens to a lot of people.
Unfortunately in my case I found the "bolt" but I could not find the screw and will have to find a correctly sized replacement somewhere.

Would highly recommend using loctite if that hasn't happened to you yet. Kinda bad when your belt falls off at a party (don't ask!) ;-)

I finally got around to taking pics of the rust.  It's the side that is up when worn as a buckle and is closest to the skin. Now I can get on with getting the rust removed and lubing it up to prevent it.

I recommend Flitz metal polish with Teflon.  I applied it to my Gerber MP when I got it in the early 1990s and reapplied a few times since then and it still looks pretty good for a tool that saw EDC for about 4 years.

Anyone know how to tighten the pivot point on a Sync II? Mines got a bit of wobble in it already and with the latch mechanism going through it I can't give it the old love tap on the pivot I don't think

Do you not just tighten the pivot with a torx? Or is that only the latch mechanism?
If not, vice grips method?

I tried that but it didn't make a difference. I'll take the latch out completely and have a better look.

How is the Sync II for daily carry? I'm debating on the purchase... seems like a cool toy, but how good are the wire cutters, the pliers, and the scissors? Thanks!

Charles.

Pliers are surprisingly good. Wire cutters are small, but function well. Scissors are like New Wave scissors, except they require a bit more force to make the same cuts as the New Wave scissors would.
The II is BIG. Don't let the photos fool you.
You can see in the photo the Sync I and II and below/to the left is a SOG ToolClip.  :o

I just thought I'd mention that. I was a bit surprised by the size. And the "pull a tool out half way" unlocking mechanism takes some getting used to.
Hope this helps. :tu:

I handled one at REI and thought it was a good size for a belt buckle. I'm a big guy. I like big belts. It felt good to play with it, but I wanted to do more research before I snag one. The tool locking mechanism didn't bother me... except that the drivers don't lock. Seems strange to make scissors lock, but not a screwdriver. Same with the file... weird tool choices to be locking vs non-locking. But that was the only real gripe I had when handling the tool in the store. I didn't have opportunity to test the wire cutters or scissors or anything, which is why I wanted to ask here. How does it do on 12ga and 24ga stranded wire?

For that matter, how does the Sync 1 perform with wire cutting duties?

Charles.

The II cut 12 single-strand just fine, but with slightly more effort than standard type MT cutters, nut nothing bad. And mine will cut 24 just fine.  :tu:

Single strand? I need it to cut wire you'd use in an automotive or home stereo installation. Which is 12ga stranded primary wire, 12ga stranded speaker wire, sometimes 10ga, but rarely. And then fine electronics work as well, which will be down to 24ga wire. All stranded copper, no ROMEX or house wiring.

My bad. Single 12g wire-stranded. No a single strand of it. :tu:

I didn't mean it would only cut one strand of a 12g stranded wire. :pok:

I was trying to say you won't be cutting any 12-2 or 12-3 with it. Well..you could..,but it would look like a piranha biting at the insulating jacket. :)

Perfect. I have different tools for home improvement stuff. When I’m out and about I need to be able to rewire a vintage motorcycle or fix trailer wiring or whatnot. So stranded cutting is important. Sounds like I might be buying these :)
