We're with you Kev - virtually holding your hand. There's a virtual pack of Pickled Onion Space Raiders for my brave boy as soon as he's out of the dentists.

Many years ago during a dentist visit he was asking me to bite down (on a new filling perhaps?) and my teeth weren't meeting, so he kept asking me to bite down harder.
Then when he saw the blood he realized my tongue was in the way! I couldn't feel it because of the injections I had had...

Oh and the other day I tripped because one foot got caught in the big hole in the other leg of my casual pants and I fell with a nasty splat on the floor.

Today was one of those rare days where you cannot avoid a full frontal confrontation with an agressor.

Nobody got hurt because I kept my cool and didn't step back, but my girlfriend cried afterworths because of the anxiety and fear...
Poor thing...

She's still a little stressed out at the moment.

She's off to bed now, so I've got some time to write up what happened.

I was driving to a small local DIY store to pick up the hooks for my (dedicated) tool wall to attach all sorts of tools to it.

As I entered the city center, a car in front of me drove 30kmph where 50 is allowed.
It's a one way road with cars parked on the edge and pedestrians cross it quite often without looking so I could relate to his speed.

At a crossroad that has no overview, the man braked to a stepfoot speed, perfectly understandable, and took a right turn, which was also the way I was going.

There was a van parked at the side, but not on the road, and the driver of that van stood behind it to grab something.
The driver in front of me was appearently startled as he made a full stop.
Luckely we were going slow or it would have been a hit, braking out of nowhere.
After 2 seconds he continues on his way, with me behind him. Again, we're not passing the 30 mark, which is rather strange in this street.

The next 2 crossroads are both without any overview and he passes them at 30 without looking over, while the right hand side has the right of way.
I myself slow down at these crossroads/intersections and make sure nobody with right of way is comming from that direction.

Because the driver ignored the crossroads all together, he had gained quite some distance from me.
I continued my way at 50, as is allowed, and quickly catched up with him.
As soon as I reach him, I see there is no oncomming traffic.
I put on my turn signal, switch lane, pass him, turn on my turn signal again and get back on my own lane. All at 50kmph.

The driver then starts blinking his headlights.
So I make a full stop, look behind me and while nodding my head, ask: "what's the problem?"
The driver starts all sorts of hand guestures and in-car shouting.

I just make a no-nodding movement and continue my way.
I soon realise the man is following me, and as I stop at the DIY store, he stops right next to me.
I get out of the car, and so does he.

While he looks at me, I ask "what appears to be the problem?"

He then starts shouting that I'm the problem, since I'm a crazy maniac who should get a serious beating and that he felt like being the one who should give me that.
He appeared to be in his late 50's, early 60's.
I tell him to calm down and immediatly get shouted at again that I am the uncalm crazy maniac.
I tell him he has the right to drive 30 if he wants, and I can drive 50 if I want.
I also state that I didn't get in his way or bothered him in any way but that he flashed his headlights for something that wasn't abnormal.
He then continues to shout (he is now about 10cm/4inch from my face, and I'm ready for about anything) he tells me that the road is a 30 max and I counter that by saying it ain't true. Even if it was, I still didn't bother him.
Everytime I was able to speak, I started with "sir" which appeared to annoy him deeply as he said "if you call me sir one more time, I will...!!"

He said I bothered him by being annoyed while driving behind him against my liking, so I ask him what made him think that since I wasn't annoyed even a bit.
He didn't know what to answer and just started shouting again that I should get a serious beating.

He eventualy turns around, as alot of people came looking at what was going on. He went towards the store as I said "you're not someone worth discussing with, so I'll just GIVE you the right"

He enters the store with me behind him.
At the register I looked at him again, not saying a word, and approached the clerk directly, as they all know my dad and me there.
I was allowed first in line (out of the 2 of us) and left the store, smiling as I passed him.

On our way home my girlfriend, who witnessed everything, broke down in tears.

Like I said, I remained calm, didn't raise my voice, but looked him straight in the eyes and didn't set 1 step back.
As a 26 year old, remaining calm wasn't easy as there would have been nothing I wanted more then to mop his car with his upper lip, but I'm glad I, as the young (unrespectfull youngling?) One, was the only one using common sense.

My girlfriend said my face turned quite pale, but my blood was pumping and my eyes were watching all movements and body language from the corners.
Had quite some adrenaline shake after I got home too...

If I know I'm right, don't force me in being wrong.

My washing machine died this morning. I've repaired it 3 times in the past but it decided to commit suicide this morning, full of water with towels in it .  Took me an hour to get inside it to get the laundry out of it, and drain it down.

It must have known there was a sale on at my local Currys electrical shop.   I'm glad it's payday next Thursday.

New one arrives on Tuesday, and for an extra tenner they install it and take the old one away, bargain  :tu:

Been at work 25 mins and been handed a letter by my bosses boss that will make it one of those days

I get paid an amount of overtime in my salary every month that is based on me working 150 hours a year overtime. Yet again this last year I worked more hours than I was paid for as I felt the job required it at the time, and worked 196 hours. It's something I have always done as have many others in my department. I come in 15 mins early every day and leave around 15 to 30 mins late every day, which I don't book either.

Today's letter states that in a cost saving exercise they are cutting mine from 150 down to 35 hours for the year, and are sure I can maintain my normal level of service as in previous years with this amount.  If I break my hours they will review it at the end of the year to determine if they feel it was justified and will talk of whether they will pay is the extra or not. They've said this before and it never happens, we get told we should have planned our time better.

Well that's the straw that broke the camels back, I know where they can stick that letter. From the talks down the corridor it looks like they've done it to everyone. . Over the years I've worked here I figure they owe me around 3000 ish hours in unpaid overtime and goodwill call outs. More fool me for doing it I suppose. This financial year they will get my 35 hours and no more.  Talk about shooting themselves in the foot. That's how to motivate a work force

On the bright side I'll get 15 mins extra in bed on a morning from now on.

No doubt it was the bright idea of some manager how to save the company some wages expenses.  It could backfire badly in a number of ways.

I had a similar experience once (many years ago) instigated by a penny-pinching new boss.  I informed her I would work my regular hours only from now on (no more unpaid overtime), and also that I was going to start looking for a new job.  She was all apologetic, but the damage was done, and I started a new job less than a fortnight later.

They've done it across the board for everyone at my level and below. The guy in the office next to me has been slashed from 350 hours to 35 as well, he's seething. That is a big chunk of money to lose with no warning. The union office phone must be blowing up this morning from all the calls it will be getting.

I dunno, probably not. My boss is on holiday yet again and his boss doesn't give a smurf about it. He wants to get higher so he will follow his masters instructions.

Funny how the CEO jumped ship recently over differences with the owners.

Hey, your time is important. You should spend it with someone who values it. You. Or your family, friends, pets, knives, whatever.

They want you to not do overtime? Fine.

- Oh, 18h, end of my shift. I'm off. See you monday!
- But the mainframe is overheating! It just caught fire!
- No prob. It'll be the first think I'll look into. Monday. At 9h. Have a great weekend, boss!

Hmmm?

The company was sold for a quid?

I've seen similar news. The fact is that the companies have debts. The buyer supports the debts and gets the assets (land, buildings, machines). They are paying much more than just £1.
