Need a way to keep my Wave Closed!
on: March 30, 2017, 04:56:33 PM
After receiving my Blue Collar Wave back, i realized that it is missing something to hold the handles together. Which is probably my favorite feature on the Signal.

The handles fall open in my pocket and I have already tapped the frames with a punch as well as adjusted the screw tensions with loctite.

I'd like to avoid a rubberband, plastic sleeve, or something I have to hold while I use the pliers.

I was thinking a rotating lock that "hooks" the other handle?

Has anyone tried a tiny magnet on each side, perhaps glued in the handle? (Also, does anything think there is magnetic interference with anything else carried in the pockets?)
I have ordered some small magnets and will try some configurations when they come in.

P.S.- Using the desktop version of the forum and it is NICE! Tapatalk is a little more convenient but this looks way better!  :multi:

Wouldn't tightening the pliers pivot screws take care of that problem?

I would go this route as well :tu: you may have to fine tune the adjustment so you can flip them open one handed still but if you get the tension just right then they should stay shut as well

It's not fine tune enough, either the pliers stay closed and I lose the ability to open some of the blades, or the pliers flop open but I can use the blades.

Integrate a loop into your lanyard that can snugly fit around the Wave to keep it closed. That way you don't have to worry about holding onto it when using the pliers.

Heck, you could tie a rubber band to the lanyard....

Do you have a Harbor Freight Tool close by  They have 3/8" neodymium rare earth element magnets that are pretty strong  :tu:

Put a little silicone sealant on the sides of the handles for the plier head to wedge against when closed.

I think sLaughterMed has the idea that is the most simple, easiest to pull off, and possibly the one that might work the best.  That's what I would do.  But if you don't want to go that route, you could probably JB weld a little hook or something that could swing into place and lock onto your pocket clip or onto a stud or something you weld to the other handle.  Similar to a butterfly knife.

Whelp I've given up on my magnets coming in.

For now a loop or rubber band sounds best, I've got plenty of metal lying around, I might try to rig up an "Evil" style lock.

I remember your first post saying you didn't want to have to use a rubber band or something like that. It's unfortunate your Wave just falls open too, mine does not, however I can flick force it open when I want to.

Have you considered adding the pocket clip. That would Seem to do the trick for pocket carry just fine, no?  ;)

Also a pocket caddy would help your situation perfectly. Perfect for pocket carry. Makes loose tools ride like a dream in the pocket, and would remedy your problem 100%.  :tu:

How about some shrinking tube? Just form it around the handles and don't make it to tight. Leave some material to form a small tab you can pull it out with.
