Strider Knives Closing after 25 years
on: March 31, 2017, 04:21:08 PM
My first thought was that it was an early April Fool's joke, but it seems to be legit.  Mick Strider announced it this morning on Instagram and surprised everyone.

It seems they want to go out on top and not fade away, so they are closing the doors and selling off the remaining knives at BLADE this year.

The text reads:

Quote
25 years!

Wait what?
Twenty five years of the Mick and Duane show known as Strider Knives.
Twenty five years of the He Man Woman Haters Club.
Twenty five years of changing an industry.
Twenty five years of employing our retired friends and supporting those still in the fight.

Strider Knives is written into history

We have been hated and loved and hated some more.

I've been pondering over this post since January.

I've come to the conclusion that it's just not possible to do in a single sitting. There's just too much. I will be writing about this for some time..... So here's the short

Duane and I have decided to retire Strider Knives Inc.

BLAM!

The last "Strider Knives" will be sold at Blade Show 2017, at the end of which we will strike the Strider Knives colors.
I will continue to produce select items on a limited basis thru MSC as my "Classic Line". I will also continue warranty service on all Strider Knives products. Your guarantee is still valid.

Duane and I made this decision because Strider Knives isn't the same. With he and I doing our own things, and our buddies having moved on to other things, we would rather finish strong then start doing the Indian casino circuit. When we started this there was a giant hole in the knife industry. We filled that hole.
There are now plenty of knife makers building actual hard use knives, we have earned a rest.

We started this ride with a PALS mentality and never once let off the gas pedal.

I'm proud to say it was an epic ride with a hell of a lot of amazing Friends.

Thank you all!!! PALS

Talk amongst yourselves....

Wow! Thats kind of crazy. I will be at blade, but i dont know about spending that much on a knife I'm not that crazy about. I have no doubt that their knives are top tier stuff, just nothing pops out to me personally. Not for that expensive of a purchase at least.

I'm guessing we don't have a lot of Strider fans here?

Or maybe we do and they are all in mourning, and too upset to post?

Regardless of what you think of them, it is still unpleasant to hear that an established knife company is closing it's doors.

Bad to hear that about an established company like that  :-\ It does sound like they are just part g ways and doing there own thing now instead of financial reasons anyways  :tu: Still bad to hear though :-\

I own a Strider SNG, but they are - in my view - grossly overpriced.  They do look cool, and work like a knife is supposed to work.

SNG (center) with passaround AR (bottom).  Pic is 10 or 15 years old.  I also owned a PT, but sold it.

+1  :( HATE to hear this

I dont know their knives really..... and I consider myself a "knife guy"  ..... The cost kept me from even looking more into them.
I do remember wanting one of the BUCK/STRIDER colab knives when they 1st came out..... but again price ran me off faster than my boys getting to the table when Tiff yells "COME ON LET'S  EAT"!

That said............... they are some COOL LOOKING knives IMPO, and prolly would if I could.    :D

It does sound like they are transitioning into something else.  I doubt this is the last we have heard of either of them.

25 years is a good run though!

I just want to say that blatant phallic suggestion in that logo is more of a joke than this news  ::)

I don't have a Strider knife. Are they any good?

I am very suspicious of this being an April 1st prank. I'd believe it if they announced it mid-August or something, but now? I'll believe it when it happens.

I hadn't noticed.

Now I can't see anything else.....  :ahhh

They are insisting that it isn't a prank, so it is either real or they don't know how jokes work.
