This ebay listing is shady, don't take the risk !

Dodgy ebay listings seem to be getting more and more common, and it seems to take ebay a while to discover them and shut them down. 

So if you see one that looks suspect, post it here and save our members from false hope and disappointment at best (and also report it to ebay as possibly fraudulent).

Identifying characteristics are:

- New (recently joined ebay) seller

- Zero (or very low) +ve seller feedback)

- Crazy low price (a fraction of the wholesale price)

- Multiples of the item for sale

- (sometimes) Free worldwide shipping

- Listing is a close copy of a genuine listing by another seller

It looks like ebay reacted fairly quickly after I reported it.

No matter how intoxicating the deal, I will not buy from anyone on eBay unless they have zillions of sales with (almost) perfect feedback.  Its just not worth the risk.

Then you may miss some of the best deals on the net. I am not afraid to buy from zero-feedback sellers, if there are a few things to assure my confidence:
- Have past sales
- US-based
- Item is not shipped from outside the US with 2-week lead time (big red flag)
- Great deal but not something extraordinary (if seller does not know the gem he has, his wording should kind of show that. If the seller knows what the item is, gives a really detailed listing, with a giveaway price, then it is a red flag)

I got some of the best deals from zero-feedback sellers.

The $15 Surge deal above looks like one I jumped in last week. I bought two, only for eBay to remove the listing 2 hours later. I went back to Paypal, the money was still waiting to be accepted, so I cancelled the payment. That listing had 2nd and 3rd points, so I decided to gamble.

I will buy from a seller with zero feedback as long as the rest of the information about them and the listing appears genuine.  As I said above, most of these scammers are pretty obvious if you take the time to check them and their listing out properly.

I've been wondering what the scammers objective is with all these scam listings.  AFAIK ebay won't release the funds for newbie sellers for a couple of weeks or until they get some +ve feedback from buyers, so it seems unlikely they will actually get some money from the scam sales, so maybe there is some other angle. 

Maybe they get hold of the buyers paypal address at the time of purchase and they intend to target that in some way ?  I believe there must be some angle, otherwise why would they bother.  Anyone got any other theories ?

Great job at reporting these Greg.  I'm not sure why the scammers keep popping up when funds will be held?  I'm sure they've got some reason worthwhile.

FYI, eBay is not always so diligent. I reported a whole bunch of "SOG Flash Tanto" listings, none of which was ever taken down.

There was a $25 shipped Surge listing, which I reported this afternoon. It got pulled now. Just make sure you report under "fraudulent" on such listings for eBay to take action. Those "trademark, counterfeit" claims do not seem to go anywhere.
