Some awesome collections and PKs posted here! Two PKs have found me in my life. A Marjacq stainless and Opinel #8 pruning knife.
I have carried the Marjacq a few times, but rarely have an occasion to carry the #8 Opinel hawkbill. I don't do a lot of pruning.  :P Cool knives though!
They have two of my favorite features in a  wood handled knife. Light and locking blade. :)

Opinels are my only non SAK folding knives these days. My two number 8's are daily service knives in the work shop out back and the kitchen. I love how Opinels cut. I will soon be getting a number 6 and maybe a number 4 to replace my "peanut' class of pocket knives.

Sometimes the Opinel gets teemed up wth my trusty tinker.

Nice collection! Of the different sizes out there, my all time favorite would have to be the the No. 9. I just love the big blade for heavy duty work, and it carries well in the pocket  for it's size. The No. 6 is a great EDC pocket blade in that it doesn't take up a lot of space, but is still a very capable little blade. Here is my current collection. Starting from top to bottom: No. 6, No. 8, No. 8 Outdoor, No. 9, My modded Super 9, No. 12 Explore, and my two Svords.

Does anyone else aside from me not bother with the ring lock for most cutting jobs?

I had a few outright friction folders over the years like the Japanese Higonokami and the Sardinian Resolza, and I started to use my Opinels like them. I have the pivot rivet snugged up so the blade is a snug fit, but still openable when wet. Most times I don't bother twisting the lock and just depend on the cutting force keeping the blade open.

When I first read that the virobloc ring wan't added to the Opinel until 1955, that was very interesting to me. All the years with slip joints made me think that maybe I don't need the lock. After all, Joseph Opinel didn't invent the peasants knife, he was just the first one to put the design into mass production. Before that, the peasants knife was sort of a locally produced by blacksmith/craftsmen thing.

So, for a few years now, I've been using the Opinel as a pure friction folder peasants knife like the true penny knife of the European working class. I still have all my fingers so far.  :D
Don't get too serious, just enough will do.

I don´t use the lock very often. Mainly because I forget to. And I haven´t lost any fingers either.

For a while, you didn't need to with my one No. 9, the handles was so badly swollen that you could barely open the blade :poh:
