Did you rebuild the mini champ yourself send it to the factory?

So, I bought a Waiter, it was supposed to be gift for someone. Then I started carrying it ......and added the mini SD and pin from some spares that I had on hand and swapped the key ring for the smaller classic SD key ring. It hasn't had much use yet but I like it! Small and versatile. What great gift! I guess i'll just have to get another to gift away!

Did it myself.  It came in a handy man special from eBay.
2 SDs and the MiniChamp.  The SDs were both kinda rusty and someone had tried to sharpen the MC blades with some sort of electric sharpener of some sort.
Scissors from 1 SD and blades and scales from the other.

This was my first attempts at tearing one apart and putting it back together.

Well I did it. I parted with the Waiter and gave it to my dad as intended. He was ecstatic too. I asked him if he ever wished he had a small handy knife on him he responded saying these days he has come across many times he could use one. I showed him the waiter, the mini SD in the corkscrew and he loved it! So, yes, i'll have to purchase another but it feels pretty good after his reaction!

Hi guys,
The Amazon just delivered me a Waiter yesterday. It's probably my perfect little SAK - though to be fair I rarely use a corkscrew any more, but it takes the small screwdriver nicely!

I was a little surprised to find that it's got plastic liners (not the red scales, the silver liners). While it's very lightweight, there's something about the weight of an SAK that feels so good in the hand that's missing.

Do all the 84mm models have plastic liners? This is my first in that size.

Thanks,
Jeff

Whooottt...???  :sa: :sa:

plastic liners?? I'm pretty sure you're mistaken...

I've never heard of a single Vic model with plastic liners

Why do you feel they are plastic? Can you post some pics?

No 84mm (at least 2 layers) has any plastic liners.
If that is real and they are putting plastic liners on any saks, it's the day i'll stop buying new sak's from Vic, honest....

Really hope you are mistaken about that

Slightly off topic, is the Vic Apprentice (like Waiter, but with phillips instead of corkscrew) still made?

I've not carried my Apprentice mod in a long time.  As you say though: great compact tool set.

Well guys, since I am addicted to SAK too, I got something for you.
And since it seems that it is impossible to get a 91mm Waiter, I created one of a Compact.
I removed the 2nd layer, though this is a quite expensive way to lengthen a knive 7mm 😂
Some pics for you as a thank and return for your inspiration.
Merry christmas and a happy new year!
