Isn't most everything going up except people's pay checks? Cost of living is the same way.

LMs are priced like gold here and the 2nd hand market seems to still have steep prices. Are they not aware that everything's value depreciates?
It's either they're not honest on their claim or they're not even using the tools but just a fashion statement.

SAKs however stays the same or even lower for second hand.

The price of commodities are pretty much the same with inflation into account. I guess the additional cost of importing those tools are getting higher?

I've noticed this too, and it's what has forced me to really enjoy what I have, because I can't justify the expense of buying anymore.  Sometimes I'll get lucky and score on Ebay, but I never buy retail anymore.  My Rebar is going on 4 years old now, and it's still going strong.  I don't think I'll buy another full sized multi until it breaks and I need a temp tool while I warranty it.  If I ever need to do that, that is.

Yeah, I was checking them out. Good looking knives. :)

Do you think that you will carry Kershaw or Biker?

Sent from my XT1563 using Tapatalk

That is a definite possibility, considering there are a few Kershaws already listed.  :D

Not here... everything is getting cheaper here, including MTs.
Past 5 years the LM prices have shrunk to less than half. Vic prices are the same as 5 years ago, but considering the increase in salaries, they have gotten cheaper in effect too. Gerber and SOG are still hard to get here (but luckily we have the MTO store now).
I'm actually more hesitant when it comes to knives I find them often way over-priced.

Btw, worst deal you can get here, is an original Samsung or iPhone case, they cost around 80$ for a piece of plastic

They sell LM in Switzerland?  :o
You can get almost everything here... but more importantly, the largest web-store started to carry LM a couple of years ago and prices are now down. They also have Gerber (but limited selection), SOG is available but only in Brick n' Mortar stores (but only like one or two in all of Switzerland) and a good deal overpriced (a lot more expensive than LM or Vic), I can even walk into a store and buy Al-Mar Multitools :P.

What is surprisingly hard to find here, are all those EDC-Titanium-Keychain-OPT-Gadget-Stuff-Thingies
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

I don't buy mt's retail anymore unless they are on clearance. I just acquire things through swaps and use my bargaining skills.

If any of you euro guys want leathermans, I'd be happy to buy them in the us for you and ship them over at cheaper prices 😁
I knew my wife was a keeper when she transitioned from calling it a knife thingy to a multi-tool.

I saw the rebar priced at £85 the other day and the sidekick etc for £70 ? It does depends where you look as prices vary, I'm not a collector as sadly have to sell or trade on to try another MT, luckily due to this great group I've tried most MT'S and now enjoy what I have  :tu:

What about 299 euros for a Charge TTi?
https://www.actionitems.gr/leatherman-charge-tti.html

Wait, it's not that much! It's a promotion from 339 euros. We should be content with it.

Cmpared to this a Victorinox Spirit is a steal at 135 euros. Still expensive, but better and more functional.

Thankfully, we can buy everything much cheaper, at a preowned NIB status, from MTO classifieds.

A Victorinox Huntsman retailed for $10 in the 1960s, which equates to over $100 today.  At present, a Huntsman will cost between $30-$40 in the US.   A plain old PST was over $50 back when they first came out. I have a Buck knife box from the early 1980s with a price tag of $35 on it, which is high for the era and the small Knight it contained.  A Buck 110 is $30 at the local Walmart.

Of course, my main complaint is with traditional makers.  Camillus and Schrade were always $30 or so for most models, Case is typically $40-50.     Kutmaster and Bear are priced like Camillus and Schrade (both have made knives for both companies as well), Bear has quality issues; Kutmaster is hard to find locally. I have to special order them through Fastenal, and those are just the Proto and Klein SFOs.

It's one of the reasons I'm no longer active on MT and knives, getting too expensive for what they are IMO. But then again I already have several lifetime supply of them.

You intrigued me with this info, so I did some research.  :D
This catalogue says $16.50?
SAKWIKI Vic 1960's catalogue
I think thats amazing, as I can buy a Huntsman for 24 Pounds(30 Dollars) on amazon right now.
Thats a little less than double the price, while according to inflation since the 1960's, it should be over 100 Dollars as you say.  :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh :o

Why are our SAKs so cheap nowadays?
Economies of scale? (Vic probably makes more SAKs today).
Cheaper machines?
Cheaper labour costs?
Lower profit margin?
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

All hail the hook!

SAKs are cheap thanks to automated production... which of course requires a high output. Many people claim that Victorinox is not "innovative" but that might be another reason for them to be cheap. Changes, new tools and stuff always costs lots of money.

Labor cost is probably very high, after all it is located in Switzerland.
