Which lighter would you carry in your fire kit, Bic, Clipper, Zippo or a no name disposable?

I used cheap lighters before and well they are poo.  I picked up some Bics so I've put them in their place.  I've also picked up some mini bics as well.  Not sure if they are ( Bics ) the best out there but they've got to be better than the cheap ones I had.

I knew I had a thread related to my cheap lighter experience.

I have had a few lighters over the years from various names and I have yet to find one that I really like.  Ronson came close, but they really need to have one that is a little more outdoors friendly, at least with a lanyard ring or something.  So far all of the butane lighters I have owned have burned out, so I have been mostly sticking to matches as a result.  Maybe if I needed a lighter more often (ie, if I smoked) I might feel differently, but I don't and have no desire to start.

That might also change is a halfways decent lighter ever get's manufactured.

Bics, if you can find them!

Bic all the way. Been carrying one as part of my EDC since before I knew there was an acronym for it.

Never had one fail me and never had one leak either. Always in my pocket and I keep some spares in my hiking/camping bags. Never know when you'll need to light candles on a cake, singe paracord ends, thaw the locks on a car (heat the key and then insert) or, you know, start a fire.

I buy Djeep lighters. (The ones with the huge “1” printed on them.) Larger butane tank than Bic and I just like them better in the hand.

I voted BIC, but actually the last lighter I bought was a Clipper, which is now empty......

By the time you've used the leftover flints from the last 5 BICs in the refillable Clipper, the striker wheel will be worn down and you can buy another BIC.

I have several Zippos, hardly ever use them.

Bics rule.

I have a 30 years old Zippo my wife bought me, that I stopped carrying after I had a chemical burn on my skin after a leak. My wife bought me an exensive Duppont after that. It fell many times from my hands and finally that had a leak two. I also was afraid I would loose it.

Bic works every time and I never had a leak, I'm not afraid I will loose it or drop it. Now I don't smoke anymore, I simply have small Bics here and there.

Serious. It was an old car (ie no electronic lock/unlock) and it had some issues with water in the winter. Only had to do it a few times, but was worth the cost of the lighter (more multi function than lock de-icer).

I have done this a few times. Very handy trick.

Glad to see I'm not the only one trying to set metal keys on fire in the winter. :D

You guys have no idea how far Zippo hand warmers and defrosting car door locks is removed from my reality!  :like:

There's a reason I tend to use words like “exotic” and “alien” when I respond to your photo posts, Gerhard. :D (As one of those living in a place “where the air hurts your face”.)
