Hello from Georgia
on: October 10, 2008, 04:41:46 PM
Hello all,

Long time lurker first time poster.  I've been interested in pointy objects since my dad bought me my first knife at age 9 (I'm now 23).  I was into tacticals for awhile, but have always loved the simplicity of the SAK.  I look forward to adding my insight to the conversation, and maybe swapping or selling some tools with you fine folks.

About my screenname.  My name is Zack, but Liam is the name of my son, who will be coming into this world in a few short months.  I can't wait for him to be old enough for his first sharp pointy thing.

Regards,
Zack

Welcome to the forums Zack.

My history with knives is very similar to yours. First SAK at age 10, moved to Leatherman, then to Spyderco and finally back to SAKs.

Thanks for the welcome.  My first knife was a Bear and Sons mini manager lockback.  Whole knife open is about the size of your pinky.  I did everything with that knife, and then one of the scales came off.  I chucked it a drawer, and bought a Schrade Cliphanger...horrible knife.  I guess my first decent knife was my Smith and Wesson Baby SWAT.

My first knife was a Tinker. I had a Cliphanger but I couldn't stand that weird plastic thumbstud.

Yeah I got a few of those too.  I just got a Skeletool and Juice S2, and I just gave my father-in-law my wave, because he lost his.  I also have a SOG paowerlock for those big jobs.

Welcome to the site, Zack. I was down in Georgia a while back for a job. You anywhere nears Conyers? Nice town, lotsa great places to eat. I still laugh thinking about that giant talking Elk's head on the wall at ...... I think it was called Bugaboo Creek restaurant by some mall. Good steaks too. My diet was put on hold for a short time.  ;)

In case you are wondering what the tank joke was all about...

No problem... a T72 is no match for an old Toyota held together with duct tape and coat hangers!  :D
