Season 2 is upon us.

2x01 - Kalahari

And a Charge.  :multi:

He was given an ostrich egg for the week (and a can of jam, and some peanut butter).

Taking apart thick ropes to individual cords.

About to scavenge parts off the car.

Talking to the camera.

Cutting seat cover to collect water.

Screw driving.

Opening can of jam. Looks tasty.

But it's not. Too sweet to eat, and makes you thirsty.

Sawing. Take my word for it.

Making spear.

Just to illustrate the difference we're looking at, comparing the SD episode to the HD one.

Cutting a root, to chew for some juice.

Removing sting from scorpion.

They've got quite a grip.

Cutting plastic sheet, to collect condensation out of urine.

Smiling at the luxury of kebab.

It's time for Ostrich Egg Facts!  :ahhh

He said it was the best egg he had ever had. You can see it in the pic. So relieved to eat anything, more so a delicious hard boiled massive egg.

Polishing the bottom of a soda can can focus sun beams for fire.

Collecting condensation from urine.

And from trees.

Soda can trick worked.

Condensation collected.

And from the bag on the tree.

1x08 - Plane Crash

Swisstool again.
Salvaging parts from the plane wreck.
(Image removed from quote.)

Available gear.
(Image removed from quote.)

Cutting foam out. He is also simulating an injured arm. Maybe a one-hand bladed MT would be a wiser choice?
(Image removed from quote.)
(Image removed from quote.)

This is the best example of a bad shot. He is behind the plane cutting away with the MT.
(Image removed from quote.)

Wire saw busted. That's five bucks you won't see again.
(Image removed from quote.)

Salvaging whatever he can.
(Image removed from quote.)

Hare on a snare.

I liked him in this one particularly for trying to take on the broken arm.  He also gets bonus respect for being honest enough to admit he couldn't do it. :salute:

2x02 - Amazon

Charge again. And in Amazon.
How awesome would it be if he happened upon Jeremy Wade.  "Fish on! Fish on! Oh wait, it's a Canadian!"  :D

He was also given a machete.

Kindling.

You're never alone in the Amazon.

Making a hook out of the soda can tab.

He's filing here.

That should do the trick.

He found a cocona fruit, also known as daboka, or Solanum sessiliflorum.
Described on the Discovery Channel show Survivorman while in the Amazon jungle in late 2007, they were said to provide a "flavor explosion", with a taste between a lemon and a tomato.

No name for this fruit, but it looks to me like durian or similar.

2x03 - Labrador.

Charge again, making a hobo stove.

While using the MT like a hammer.

Nice mod this one. The stock of the rifle has holes, and stored inside were ten bullets, some cotton tinder, and a ferro rod.

He had many dedicated tools, as one would, going on a dog-sled expedition.

A nice knife, to cut the tin, dig holes, and cut meat.

A nice axe, for spreading butter on toast.

And a folding saw. I can't make out the name. Is it Corona?

2x04 - African Plains

Charge, cutting hot air balloon for tarp.

Showing off.

He was given a machete, locally called "panga".

And a knife that looks like it starred in the best action movies ever.

That's gonna scare off leopards alright.

Cutting tarp and ropes, for a hammock.

Great job on a great thread! :tu:
It's almost like watching the episodes again. He doesn't do everything right, but he would probably be the first one to tell you that. He definitely one of my favorite living survival-type-guys, of the ones I know (probably a fraction of the whole). I'd like to see him and Matt Graham do a dual survival-esque show. I feel they both have very realistic ideas on what is what.

2x05 - Alaska

Charge again, filing a piece of glass to make a hook.

The glass broke, so he is sawing a piece of plastic.

He used this to chop off the piece.

Not too bad.

He used mainly the fixed blade in this episode.

He also used a fire piston.

A Wave in this one.

Removed the propeller with it.

Cutting the breathing apparatus regulator, to use as a drinking tube.

Cutting and cleaning a boobie.

2x07 - Behind the scenes

Although this is sort of a compilation episode, there are no multi-tools in this that have been shown in other episodes. Every tool in this episode is in this episode only.

In Labrador, one of the crew's snowmobile broke down, and one had a Gerber with him. Or two.  :D
(This episode is not in HD, sadly).

Sheaths spotted, both Gerber, if I am not mistaken. Still, two on one belt.  :salute:

And here it is.

Another interesting tool is this. I think there is a fork folded on the scale, so it's a hobo tool of some sort.

In the Amazon episode, he had native Waorani tribesmen as guides before the episode. Here one is using a Victorinox 111mm slidelock model to sharpen blowgun darts. Too short of a clip to identify it, but it's there.

The Kalahari advisor had a little knife with him. Just the blade was visible though.

Before Les was left alone for the episode, they found a cape cobra in a weaver bird nest.

Another guide had this. It looks like a folding knife, kind of like an Opinel almost.

Les got to fish before an episode. Maybe he could take over River Monsters?  :tu:

I just noticed that the blade is in the same layer as the reamer. In a Victorinox the blade is in the corkscrew/phillips layer, while the reamer is in the openers' layer.

It would have to be a folder and an MT, I doubt he'd have two MTs with him. Why would you own more than one MT?  ::)

Having finished the second season, I might as well post another mini review, before I delve into the third season.

Fewer episodes in this one, but still fun. You really get the feeling that Les is getting better at filming, as well as narrating. They also did away with the bits where Les is commenting on a section of the episode, in a sort of interview way. I felt that took away some of the excitement of the episodes of Season 1. It interrupted the action, seeing him sitting comfortably, commenting on what he had done.

There where some very interesting locations in this season as well, the Kalahari desert was an excellent start, Amazon, always a fan favorite, Labrador made for another great episode too.

Also, of particular interest to us were the multi-tools. He used a Charge for most of the season, and we saw the first instance of the new generation Wave, as well as a Gerber, and a Victorinox slide lock model.

Adding all up, this is a great season, regardless of the reason you watch the show.  :2tu:

Lynn posted her review in April, 2014, so I'm assuming the Camillus MT was released somewhere between late 2013 and early 2014.

Checking wikipedia, Survivorman's fourth season ended in July 2012, so the Mt did probably not exist then.
Thus, if we are to indeed see it in the show, it'll be from season 5 onward.

Or not. The Charge, Wave, Swisstool, and Gerber are nice too.  ::)
