My Mora and some gear
on: April 28, 2017, 05:59:37 PM
Got off work early today and figure I would get my Mora badge and share a little of my gear.

I'm really liking the leather work.  I often ask myself if there is another knife that can compete with the Mora .  Well in the price range as well as others.  The knife does what it needs to and is capable beyond in experienced hands.  It really is a wonderful tool that everyone should own.

How hard was it to make that pouch?

The flat round one was super easy. The tall round one was a little harder to do, but nothing crazy.

Will do brother. The the round flatter pouch is for upkeep. Pine pitch glue stick, needles for sewing, stone for sharpening and that tin with goop in it is just some fix'in wax is the best way to call it. All it is 50/50 animal fat and beeswax. It can be used for water proofing, oiling blades, and treating leather. They is a 'S' hook which I use the hang my pack or haversack on a tree limb and the fork was made by a local blacksmith. The pouch is just a maintenance kit really.
The second is my fire kit. Tin full of charred punkwood. The fire steel I made from an old file. Of course a piece of flint. I have a piece of fat wood and some tender to make a bird nest.
I think that is everything. Any thing you want to know, just let me know.

Nice one Nate.  It was the pitch pine glue stick I was really struggling on, plus what you used the S hook for.  :salute:

interesting and simple recipe for the fixin' wax. i got one that if more fancy (not sure if it is better for anything except if you put it on your skin)

1 cup pure organic beeswax
1/2 cup unrefined shea butter
1 teaspoon sweet almond oil
1 teaspoon coconut oil
Solving problems you didn't know you had in the most obscure way possible
