Fieldmaster or Huntsman?
on: July 03, 2020, 12:13:55 AM
Well...I’ve just taken delivery of a Huntsman Lite which adds an inline Phillips and the light, of course, with plus scales so you get the two combined into one...and more besides. I was kinda thinking the light is a bit gimmicky but I used it within two days of having it! I think between this, my compact and champ I now have every edc requirement covered...!

I have the Spartan lite and that light is very handy.
People often say it's to dim but I find it very Bright for a light that runs on Watch batteries ,

I like the Huntsman Lite...

And I think the only tool I might miss when I carry one is the Metal Saw.

I mostly use Spartan Lites as just Lites...or mod fodder for the Lite module/layer.

Would rather a Woodsman if I had an extra layer above a Huntsman. I'd get more use out of the magnifying glass than an LED

I agree, does a great job of illuminating behind the fridge when stuff drops behind it!

That’s the one problem I have getting the perfect archery SAK. The wood saw  (removing fallen branches etc) and metal file/saw (sharpening points) only come together on the larger formats. Ranger has always been my list but I just can’t bring myself to get one as the champ covers all  bases! 4 layers 2 saws and I’m sold. I have an Evo 17 which is nearly there but the nail file isn’t up to the job of point sharpening!

As I understand it the LED is much better than it used to be.

I'd love to get my hands on a Mountaineer Lite.

Do you know what year it got an upgrade?
I can't find any information,
Mountaineer lite looks sweet , but probably hard to find ,

No, sorry.  IIRC when the Silvertech Signature Lite came out it was the first to have an upgraded LED and everything else followed on from that.  Without checking that must be 8 years ago or so.

Great points. Now if I made it without scissors or compact style that could be a great 3 or 4 layer option. I have a hard time ‘giving up’ scissors in any mod build, but might have to give one a try.

You are pointing out that there are times when you need or want the two saws...and little else will matter aside from at least one blade.

I think they are brighter after say 2012. Most of those have the newer gray housing. Best bet is to get the clear housing. I think those are 2018+ but not sure.
