I´ll use some weapons oil or WD40 to loosen the dirt, and wash with warm water and soap afterwards, then rinse. After all, I don´t want any oil in my food.

Anyway you have some oil in a pivot. Otherwise you cant open your knife.
Try to use a Ballistol, which made from natural ingredients.

SAKs work fine without oil, didn´t you know that?

The most common apple here is the Elstar. Most of our Granny Smiths (and Golden Delicious too) come from France. However, it's getting warmer here and I'm thinking about growing some over the next years.

Yeah but that's a pain to have to clean out like that all the time.

I clean my SAKs and shears once a week. It has become a ritual that I like. Of course wiping the blade immediately after use helps a lot.

Some extra cleaning tips: white spirit is excellent for removing the gluey residue left when cutting Scotch tape. The spirit evaporates quickly and leaves no traces. Wood resin dissolves in olive oil.
