Fun fact: this model is not flawless. I would say flawled but that's an awlful joke

But seriously: when opened, the awl pushes the liner and scale outwards. I'm surprised that Victorinox OK'd this design!

BTW, it looks like they designed a new stainless steel spacer to make up for the difference in thickness between the opener layer and the awl.

Oh my... Thats not good.  :o
That will either wear the liner and bend it permanently or loosen the rivet, or both, right?  :ahhh
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

All hail the hook!

I'm afraid you're right. The rivets getting loose is not good at awl. Excuse the pun.

And considering that torque is applied to the awl this is an accident waiting to happen.
I'll remove it from my wishlist, that's a shame.

Considering how easy the awl opens and how easy the liner makes room for it, it's very well possible that the pin was "tightened" with the awl opened, leaving enough space for the awl to move freely. Not an ideal solution and nothing for Vic to be proud of, but I don't really think there is a danger of the pin bushing to break off.

But if you want to be sure about this, someone should remove the scales and take a look at the pin and bushings  ::)

Maybe this will help Victorinox realize the need for a dedicated 111mm model inline monster awl?

I got one as well. A little attention from the Dremel will sort out the in line awl problem. I've just had a good look at mine and there is an additional spacer between the backspring for the awl and the scale, so it 'should' stay tight. Time will tell.

Got mine as well after getting hit with huge custom charges   This is a great knife and the awl 'problem' will be sorted by wear of the awl on the aluminium liner or, as smashie said, use a dremel.

And no one's mentioned the secret pin yet....

He came to me too. Ask if Victorinox will improve the awl, and if so then when?

Makes me sad them putting out a knife like that.
I know nothing about the cost of design and production etc and I don't spend a lot.
But I'm just not seeing that they cared with this design and if they don't then how am I suppose to?

Does seem a little sloppy for them. Not having any type of Philips driver though is a deal breaker for me. Wonder if they're using that scale on any other 111mm knives.

Yes, I listed them in the trade section but at one point I withdrew everything. But yes, they are still available. I'm asking €70 each, but shipping may be a bit expensive since they are too big to be shipped in a bubble envelope. So probably around €25 I'm afraid.

It's these two (pic posted before):

I’m going to actually pass for now. Might be a mistake but I have an awl incoming and I’m going to try to mod one of my 111’s and build exactly what I want.

Thank you for the offer to sell though!!!

Sigh...

Been setting here trying to decide what to do here. I have an awl coming tomorrow to be used as mod fodder. I was thinking of modding my Centurion, replacing the can opener tool with the awl. That should be the easiest way to go. I never use the can opener but I do use that smaller flat head for things. Hmmm...

Then I thought of modding a DAK I have, replacing the second, curved n serrated blade. That would leave my can opener/flat blade alone but then it looks as if the awl would not work there as that end is much taller and the awl would not set there.

I also thought of still doing the mod to my Centurion but at the same time transferring the OH blade from my Sentinel to the Centurion but then I’d lose the half stop the Centurion blade has.

Decisions, Decisions....

Then I think, it would be nice to add a scissors layer....  I’m getting a headache!!!  Haha.

Maybe I’ll just tear my Hercules apart and use it!!!  LOL

So, as zrxoa1 will do a great job by himself....
Reinier, is there one available and could be delivered to Spain?

I’ll PM you tomorrow morning :)
