30 Day Trad Challenge
on: May 05, 2017, 03:21:09 AM
As most of you know, I'm a big SAK user and have been since the early 1980's.  My son, Spartan 19, has talked me into joining him on a 30 day carry challenge of traditional knives.  Always up for a challenge, I'm in!  My collection is pretty limited but I'm going to give it a go!

Day 1 kicks and off with an Opinel No. 8.  We'll see what we can get into today.  Hopefully not building an ark since it's pouring out!

I put the Opi to work after digging some diversionary ditches for my flooded stream.  Time for a snack!

Probably a dumb question, but what defines a traditional knife?

Not a dumb question.

Think about a knife your grandfather would recognize from the 50's or 80's. Stockmans, barlows, trappers etc.
In the time before thumbstuds, holes in the blade or other quick deploy gizmos.
The blue folding hunter with the thumb stud is no longer traditional. More of a modern traditional perhaps.

Also Opinels and the like, plus Single blade lockbacks like a Buck 110 Hunter and other similar knives are also included as traditionals :tu: :like:

Day 4: Old Timer Canoe Knife.  I used it to cut some plastic hang tags from some dog toys but couldn't get a pic!

and SAKs are traditional, provided that they do not have e.g. a USB stick

I assume that any folding knife is a folder.
Maybe if it has other tools too it can go beyond a plain folder (Staying as a knife based and not a pliers/scissors based design like a LM).
Some SAKs have just blades, with no other tools too.
